Ward Apparatus designs and builds custom rescue and emergency vehicles relied upon by fire and emergency services nationwide. We are expanding our design team and are seeking a Mechanical Designer who values practical design, collaboration, and seeing their work built in real time.
This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys working closely with production teams and taking ownership of designs from concept through completion.
What You’ll Do
- Design and document mechanical and electro-mechanical systems for custom emergency vehicles
- Create drawings and layouts for components including bodies, compartments, bumpers, consoles, slides, tool boards, air systems, and generator installations
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure designs are accurate, buildable, and efficiently implemented
- Support the build process by troubleshooting design-related issues as they arise
- Research components and systems to support sound design decisions
- Maintain high standards for documentation, accuracy, and craftsmanship
What We’re Looking For
- 2–5 years of recent experience in mechanical, automotive, or industrial design
- Hands-on understanding of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems
- Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving ability
- Ability to work collaboratively in a manufacturing environment
- Professional, accountable, and quality-focused mindset
Education & Background
- Post-secondary technical training, engineering coursework, or equivalent practical experience
- A four-year engineering degree is not required if experience demonstrates capability
Software Experience (Preferred)
- CAD experience with CREO, AutoCAD, or similar tools
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Adobe Suite familiarity is a plus
