Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Shoe Designer to join our creative team for a one-off freelance project. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing an innovative design and detailed drawings for this project based on our needs and vision. The Designer will collaborate closely with the client and manufacturer and is required to sign an NDA before contract begins.
Ideal Candidate
- A footwear designer, product designer, or illustrator with experience translating creative concepts into clear technical drawings and production-ready documentation.
- Comfortable collaborating directly with a creative inventor, valuing iterative dialogue between movement, function, and form.
- Experienced (or genuinely curious) about working with manufacturers, fabricators, or prototype developers, and understands real-world production constraints.
- Detail-oriented, communicative, and able to balance aesthetic vision with technical precision.
- Respects and thrives within confidential, NDA-protected projects, and understands the sensitivity of patented concepts.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and excited by one-off, innovative design challenges rather than mass production work.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed concept sketches, technical illustrations, and schematics for a proprietary performance footwear design, translating creative vision into production-ready documentation.
- Develop construction drawings and specifications to support prototype fabrication, ensuring clarity for manufacturers and technical partners.
- Collaborate closely with the choreographer–inventor (patent holder) to iterate on design, functionality, and performance requirements throughout the development process.
- Communicate effectively with manufacturers and fabricators to refine materials, construction methods, and fit, addressing feedback during prototype development.
- Interpret and integrate engineering drawings, technical constraints, and manufacturing limitations into design revisions.
- Produce visual presentation materials (including optional 2D motion or animation elements) to clearly communicate design intent, movement considerations, and functionality.
- Maintain organized documentation while working within a confidential, NDA-governed project environment.
Pay: $60.00 - $100.00 per hour
