The Systems Designer is responsible for developing concept-level lighting and audiovisual system designs for integrated environments. The role is primarily focused on lighting system design, with supporting audiovisual system concepts as required.
This position supports projects during early design and pre-construction phases through site visits, system design, documentation, and collaboration with estimating, project, and installation teams. The Systems Designer is also expected to remain innovative and creatively engaged, staying current with industry trends and introducing new technologies and ideas into system designs.
Key Responsibilities
System Design
- Develop concept-level designs for integrated lighting and audiovisual systems
- Lead lighting-focused layouts and design intent; support AV system concepts
- Define system architecture, signal flow, control intent, and infrastructure requirements
- Select and recommend equipment and technologies aligned with project goals and budgets
- Apply creative problem-solving to deliver effective and innovative system solutions
Documentation & Tools
- Produce design and design-development documentation using:
- AutoCAD
- Vectorworks
- ETC DaVinci
- EASE (for acoustic modeling and loudspeaker design)
- Create drawings and materials including lighting layouts, system diagrams, risers, and design narratives
- Prepare equipment lists and outline specifications
- This role focuses on design concepts and does not produce construction submittals or IFC drawings
Site Visits & Collaboration
- Perform site visits and field surveys as needed to verify existing conditions
- Incorporate field information into system designs
- Collaborate with the Project Estimator during budgeting and proposal phases
- Coordinate with installation technicians to ensure designs are practical and clearly communicated
- Participate in design and coordination meetings as required
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay current with emerging technologies, products, and design trends in lighting and AV
- Research and evaluate new tools and approaches for potential project use
- Introduce new ideas and technologies that enhance system performance and user experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience designing audiovisual and/or lighting systems
- Strong emphasis on lighting system design
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Vectorworks
- Experience using ETC DaVinci
- Working knowledge of EASE for acoustic modeling
- Solid understanding of AV signal flow, lighting control concepts, and audio system fundamentals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with an AV, lighting, or entertainment systems integrator
- Familiarity with DMX, DALI, sACN, Art-Net, Dante, and TCP/IP
- CTS or related industry certification (preferred, not required)
- Experience in commercial, entertainment, or experiential environments

Pay: $36.00 - $40.00 per hour
