The Transportation Civil Engineer (PE) at Ackerman Estvold Engineering and Consulting plays a pivotal role as a project leader in transportation infrastructure initiatives, particularly focusing on state Department of Transportation (DOT) projects. As a licensed Professional Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in managing transportation projects from inception through to the construction phase, ensuring compliance with state DOT, municipal, and federal standards. Your key responsibilities will include serving as the Engineer of Record, overseeing quality control, and preparing detailed designs and specifications for roadway and highway projects. You will coordinate with state DOTs (including NDDOT), municipalities, and various regulatory agencies while managing schedules and budgets effectively.

A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program and a current Professional Engineer (PE) license are mandatory, with the ability to secure North Dakota licensure through reciprocity. Candidates should possess a minimum of six years of progressive experience in transportation civil engineering, particularly with state DOTs, including the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).
Strong project management skills, inclusive of scope, schedule, and budget oversight, are critical. Proficiency in transportation design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Microstation, or OpenRoads Designer is required. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for successful interaction with clients, agencies, and internal teams.
