Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer (P.E.) at Keller Architecture is responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of mechanical building systems that support high-quality architectural projects across Florida. This role focuses on developing efficient, code-compliant, and sustainable HVAC and mechanical solutions that integrate seamlessly with architectural and other building systems.
Working in a collaborative, design-focused environment, the Mechanical Engineer supports projects from early concept through construction, ensuring technical excellence, constructability, and regulatory compliance. As part of the Mosaic Holding Corporation (MHC) ecosystem, the role contributes to shared expertise, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design and Technical Execution
- Design and engineer mechanical systems for buildings, including:
- HVAC systems (air distribution, chilled water, DX, VRF, and hydronic systems)
- Ventilation and exhaust systems
- Plumbing and mechanical equipment coordination
- Energy-efficient and sustainable system solutions
- Prepare, review, and seal mechanical calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code (FBC), ASHRAE standards, and applicable local and national codes.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and plumbing designs.
2. Project Coordination and Delivery
- Support projects through all phases, including conceptual design, permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).
- Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings and submittals, and provide construction-phase support.
- Assist with scope definition, schedules, and fee proposals from a mechanical engineering perspective.
3. Quality Assurance and Code Compliance
- Maintain high standards of technical accuracy, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in internal design reviews and quality control processes.
- Address plan review comments and support permitting approvals.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of mechanical design standards, templates, and workflows.
4. Collaboration and Team Contribution
- Work closely with Keller’s architectural team in an integrated design environment.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers or designers as appropriate.
- Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings and design charrettes.
- Support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence.
5. Client and Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions as required.
- Provide clear, professional written and verbal communication.
- Support value engineering, constructability reviews, and cost-conscious design strategies.
- Coordinate with utility providers and regulatory agencies as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida (required).
- Typically 7–15 years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building projects.
- Strong knowledge of:
- HVAC system design and selection
- ASHRAE standards
- Florida Building Code and local permitting requirements
- Experience with commercial, residential, mixed-use, hospitality, or institutional buildings.
- Proficiency with mechanical design and analysis tools, such as:
- Revit / AutoCAD
- HVAC load calculation and energy modeling software (e.g., HAP, TRACE, EnergyPlus)
- Familiarity with sustainable design, energy efficiency, and high-performance building systems.
- Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
