Position Overview:
A Lead Interior Designer at Gallatin Valley Design Group is responsible for directing and designing multiple projects from concept to completion. This creative and detail-oriented professional will develop and present compelling design concepts, refine details throughout the process, and ensure that each project aligns with the client’s vision. As the primary point of contact, they will foster strong client relationships, manage expectations, and guide clients through every phase of the design journey.
This role requires a blend of creative vision, technical expertise, and strong organizational skills. From initial client interactions to final project execution, the Lead Interior Designer will uphold the highest standards of design, efficiency, and collaboration while also contributing to the growth and mentorship of the team.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with expertise in project management, construction processes, materials, and design documentation. Additionally, a strong understanding of FF&E sourcing, space planning, and industry trends is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Oversight & Design Execution
- Direct and design multiple projects from concept to completion, ensuring creative excellence and alignment with client goals.
- Develop and present design concepts, mood boards, space plans, and material selections.
- Lead project kick-offs, establish roadmaps, and set key milestones to maintain efficiency and clarity.
- Ensure design intent is carried through all phases, from initial sketches to final installation.
Project Management & Deliverable Development
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure efficiency and profitability.
- Assign tasks and provide direction to team members, ensuring seamless workflow and collaboration.
- Conduct quality control reviews of all design deliverables, ensuring alignment with brand standards and project goals.
- Research, source, and evaluate furniture, fixtures, and materials, ensuring quality, aesthetics, and durability.
- Collaborate with vendors to obtain competitive pricing, quotes, and samples for client presentations.
- Generate and track purchase orders, invoices, and vendor acknowledgments, ensuring accuracy in all transactions.
- Monitor order statuses and estimated delivery timelines, proactively addressing delays or discrepancies.
- Maintain project account balances, tracking all purchases, credits, returns, and miscellaneous charges.
- Ensure all billable charges - freight, installation, and vendor fees—are accurately applied to client accounts.
- Work closely with internal teams to ensure financial transparency and adherence to project budgets.
Client & Partner Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships and managing expectations throughout the project.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, contractors, and vendors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Communicate design intent effectively to all stakeholders, addressing challenges proactively.
Team Leadership & Development
- Mentor and support junior designers, fostering a culture of creativity and professional growth.
- Assist in the development and refinement of templates, operational tools, and design standards.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance team efficiency and client satisfaction.
Operational & Administrative Support
- Assist with the maintenance and organization of the firm resource library and workspaces.
- Assist in the development of operational tools, templates, and training programs to enhance firm-wide efficiency.
- Adapt to evolving team needs, whether supporting an installation, sourcing materials, or refining design specifications.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in interior design.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and design documentation.
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, InDesign, Bluebeam, HouzzPro, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to navigate and interpret construction documents.
- Physical capability to assist with installations, including lifting, climbing, and handling design materials.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-oriented mindset.
Working Conditions & Benefits:
This role is based in our design center/showroom in Bozeman, MT and involves a combination of office work, construction site visits, and in-home installations. This is a full-time position with competitive benefits, including:

Please note:
- This is a full-time, in-person position based in Bozeman, MT. Remote work is not an option, as this role requires direct collaboration with clients, vendors, and team members, as well as on-site presence for project installations and site visits.
- This position may require physical activity, including lifting, climbing, bending, and assisting with furniture installation. Candidates should be comfortable working on-site in active construction environments and during project installations.
