Position Overview
As a Validation Test Engineer, you will execute engine testing activities that ensure internal combustion engines meet performance, reliability, and safety expectations. You will work hands-on with prototype engines, develop test procedures, and collaborate with technicians and engineering partners. You will troubleshoot issues, analyze data, and create test profiles that reflect real-world operation. This role gives you the opportunity to influence engine performance and support the success of industry-leading powersports products.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct validation testing for internal combustion engines, including performance, durability, and reliability evaluations.
- Support engine setup, instrumentation, and preparation of test cells to ensure accurate test execution.
- Develop and maintain test procedures and automated dynamometer sequences.
- Create test profiles that simulate real-world duty cycles and operating conditions.
- Troubleshoot issues related to engines, instrumentation, and test equipment and support root-cause analysis.
- Assist with data collection and basic statistical analysis to support engineering decisions.
- Coordinate with vendors to procure test equipment, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Provide input into test fixtures, dynamometer hardware improvements, and automation tools.
- Collaborate with technicians to ensure accurate execution, proper documentation, and safe laboratory operation.
- Perform engine teardowns and inspections as needed.
- Summarize test findings through reports, data visualizations, and presentations.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent technical degree.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in validation, testing, or a related engineering field.
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engine systems, including fuel, cooling, lubrication, and electrical components.
- Familiarity with CVTs, transmissions, vehicle systems, and CAN-based tools.
- Basic experience with scripting or programming tools such as MATLAB, Python, or VBA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective problem-solving techniques.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document and present technical information.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with strong attention to detail and a desire to learn and grow.
- Travel as needed, typically less than 5%.
The starting pay range for Minnesota is $81,000 to $107,000 per year. Individual salaries and positioning within the range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography. While individual pay could fall anywhere in the range based on these factors, it is not common to start at the high end or top of the range.
