This opportunity is ideal for a driven individual with deep experience in water infrastructures, from Wasterwater Pump Sations, sewage lift stations, storm water pumping facilities and treatment plants. This role is critical to the company's continued success with safety on complex and essential projects.
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Quality Control Manager for with a heavy civil and water infrastructures background to oversee and enhance the quality assurance and control processes within our client's operations. This pivotal role involves ensuring compliance with international standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality systems to maintain the highest levels of operational excellence. The ideal candidate will lead quality inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, fostering a culture of quality throughout the organization. This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to sustainable water treatment solutions while ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory adherence. This opportunity is offered in the San Jose, CA area.
Duties
- Prepare and submit a project-specific Quality Control Plan (QC Plan) in accordance with contract requirements
- Develop procedures to control materials, equipment, workmanship, testing, and documentation
- Ensure no work proceeds without an accepted QC Plan (interim or final)
- Maintain and update the QC Plan as required throughout construction
- Be present on site whenever work is permanently incorporated into the project
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
- Issue and track Non-Compliance Notices (NCNs)
- Document deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are completed and recorded
- Maintain a formal tracking system from identification through resolution
- Conduct continuous inspections of work in progress
- Verify workmanship, materials, testing, and documentation meet specifications
- Independently inspect contractor deliverables to ensure compliance with contract documents
- Coordinate with independent testing laboratories as required
- Coordinate corrective actions with project management while maintaining independent authority
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive testing matrix covering all required inspections and performance tests
Coordination & Communication
- Serve as primary QC point of contact with Engineer/Construction Manager
- Interface with subcontractors, suppliers, and off-site fabricators regarding quality requirements
- Ensure subcontractor submittals and quality documentation meet project standards
- Provide written direction to QC staff outlining duties and authorities
- Oversee operational testing, start-up testing, and commissioning-related quality activities
- Maintain organized QC records, including:
- Daily QC inspection reports
- Equipment calibration logs
- Receiving and storage inspection reports
- Concrete placement checklists
- Welding and coating reports
- Soil tracking reports
- NSF/ANSI 61 inventory logs
- Prepare and submit quality milestone reports as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management and minimum of ten (10) years’ construction experience on construction projects similar OR 15 years of relevant construction experience in lieu of a degree.
- Experience working for a contractor as a QC Manager
- Minimum 10 years on similar heavy civil/water infrastructure projects
- Demonstrated experience managing project-wide quality control program
Required Certifications
Construction Quality Management for Contractors or equivalent. (This course is available through the Army Corp of Engineers and/or the Naval Facilities Engineering Command).
