Engineering Manager (Japanese Bilingual Preferred)

We’re seeking an Engineering Manager to build and lead a U.S.-based engineering organization within the Circular Tech sector. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for establishing the engineering foundation that powers device lifecycle operations, logistics systems, and marketplace platforms.
You’ll work closely with U.S. business leadership while collaborating with a global technology partner in Japan—building an independent, scalable engineering function with long-term ownership and growth potential.
Engineering Organization Leadership
- Build, hire, and lead the engineering team from the ground up
- Establish strong engineering culture centered on ownership and operational excellence
- Define processes, team structure, and best practices
- Align engineering initiatives with business and operational goals
Production Reliability & Operational Ownership
- Ensure stability and performance of production systems supporting core operations
- Implement incident management, on-call rotations, and root cause analysis processes
- Drive monitoring, observability, and system optimization initiatives
- Maintain engineering ownership of operational continuity
Global Engineering Collaboration
- Partner with international engineering teams to share architecture and best practices
- Coordinate development and operational efforts across distributed teams
- Foster effective cross-regional communication and execution
Platform & Product Development
- Lead development of internal platforms, warehouse systems, and operational tools
- Partner with product and business stakeholders to deliver scalable solutions
- Drive predictable and efficient software delivery
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- 3+ years leading or managing engineers
- Experience building or scaling engineering teams
- Strong experience owning and operating production systems
- Proficiency with modern development practices (Git, CI/CD, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, software lifecycle management)
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
- Ability to commute to Long Island, NY (hybrid model)
- Experience in logistics, warehouse, or supply chain systems
- Experience working with distributed/global engineering teams
- Cloud experience (GCP or AWS)
- Background in scalable backend systems
- Experience with Go, Python, or TypeScript
- Experience building engineering teams from early stages
- Experience in enterprise or global corporate environments
- Business-level Japanese proficiency
