Position: Junior Product Designer
Location: Chrome Industries Global Headquarters in Portland, Oregon (on-site)
Duration: Regular, Full-Time
Compensation: $81,000 - $85,500
What You'll Do
The Junior Product Designer supports the execution of Chrome Industries product programs. This position emphasizes precision across tech packs, CADs, specs, measurements, testing, and file organization, helping translate creative direction into clear, accurate, and manufacturable product documentation. Working closely with the Senior Designer on a small, agile team, this role contributes to detailed design execution and development support across the full product cycle, with a design and coordination focus on special collections, graphics, patterns, and branded merchandise.
Essential Responsibilities
Design Support:
- Supports product design and development across the product lifecycle, contributing to design documentation, visual assets, and presentations.
- Supports line planning, product design concepting and product presentations.
- Receives feedback from senior team members to refine concepts and ensure accuracy and quality of execution.
Special Collections & Graphics Coordination:
- Collaborates on the execution of design concepts, including color, materials, graphics, and branding, for inline products, special collections, and branded merchandise.
- Supports day-to-day project communication with internal and external partners, tracks updates, and maintains clear, accurate documentation.
- Ensures alignment on product requirements, timelines, approvals, and deliverables.
Product Operations:
- Supports product operations by maintaining accurate product data, organizing seasonal assets, and assisting with timelines, handoffs, and execution tracking.
- Provides input and supports implementation of process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, clarity, and cross-functional workflows.
Product Development:
- Assists with product development activities, including sample reviews, documentation, specification updates, and coordination with development partners. Support material selection, costing analysis, and issue resolution to ensure products meet design intent and quality standards. -- Assist with sample reviews, communication with development team, products specs, fit, construction intent, material selection, costing analysis, and testing
- Documents product reviews, generates change lists, and supports resolutions.
Cross-Functional Coordination:
- Works closely with cross-functional partners, including development, marketing, operations, and sales, to support product execution.
- Ensures alignment by tracking feedback, specifications, and changes, and support marketing initiatives through collaboration on product information and launch preparation.
Research:
- Supports research efforts by analyzing market and competitive trends in design, materials, color, and construction.
- Documents and categorizes current and old product details and build reference libraries and visuals.
Travel Required: Yes, up to 10% of the time
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Design, Engineering, Business, or related field required.
Minimum two (2) years experience in product development, product design, or product management, preferably within premium consumer goods categories.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Curiosity and willingness to learn, hands on problem-solving mentality, interest in design function and aesthetics.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accuracy and spot errors across multiple files and formats.
- Proficiency in Adobe Suite specifically Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Office specifically Excel.
- Strong technical design skills, including tech pack creation, CAD drawings, color specs, and BOM management.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects and timelines.
- Ability to manage and organize detailed information across spreadsheets, and shared file structures.
- Ability to clearly document, illustrate, and communicate design changes to internal and external partners.
- Comfort working cross-functionally with Design, Development, Marketing, Sales, Operations, and external partners.
- 3D modeling software skill and experience is a plus.
