What We Are Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced Software Documentation Engineer to join our development team. The Software Documentation Engineer will work in close partnership with our Development and Documentation teams to deliver clear, concise content outlining the capabilities of our software. This is a hands-on role embedded within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), designed to pilot the integration of code documentation into daily development practices.
Requirements:
- Continuously document development changes in real time, participating actively in stand-ups to maintain a deep understanding of ongoing projects.
- Partner with developers to translate and outline technical details into clear, comprehensive documentation.
- Review and consume developer code comments, using these insights to create and update documentation based on specifications and code changes.
- Partner across the division, collaborating with Product Owners, BA’s, Developers, and QA to become a subject matter expert for specific system areas.
- Establish and refine processes to capture undocumented knowledge and institutional expertise, especially from senior developers.
- Ensure that documentation serves both as a training resource for new developers and as a foundation for future productivity enhancements, including potential AI integration.
- Partner with Documentation Services resources to ensure a seamless translation of technical enhancements to client documentation.

- Strong technical background with the ability to read, understand, and document code and coding practices.
- Experience working in agile or squad-based environments, with a collaborative and proactive approach to team integration.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to ask insightful questions and clarify technical information in real time.
- Proven track record of creating user-friendly, accurate, and maintainable technical documentation.
- Knowledge and understanding of C++, Java, C#, Javascript, SQL and XML preferred.
- Knowledge of credit union products and services preferred.
- Familiarity with leveraging AI tools for documentation (a plus, but not required).
- Ability to develop area-specific system expertise and mentor others on documentation best practices.
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or other technology-related field or equivalent number of years of experience.
