About The Role
The Local Manufacturing & Design (LMD) Engineering group expands Yokogawa’s product business by leading the implementation of new products through local manufacturing and design while facilitating strong communication with our headquarters, Product Management and affiliates. Our group supports four core product lines: Analytical, Controllers/Recorders, Flow and Transmitters.
We’re looking for a detailed engineer who enjoys learning and taking on challenges. This role blends manufacturing engineering and design engineering – you’ll create and maintain product drawings and BOM’s, develop processes, maintain product compliance and work with other manufacturing engineering groups to ensure the manufacturing lines maintain high-quality execution.
This position reports to Local Manufacturing & Design Engineering Manager.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Manufacturing Documentation & Product Support
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation for locally manufactured products to guarantee safety, quality, delivery and cost expectations are met.
- Implement document changes issued from global design and engineering groups to uphold process alignment.
- Retain compliance and certification of products ensuring ability to sell into required markets.
- Review, approve and occasionally create product drawings submitted to end users as part of documentation orders.
Project Leadership & Cross-Functional Execution
- Manage budget, schedule, production preparation, meetings and approval process for assigned local manufacturing projects.
- Partner with project teams to ensure tasks are clearly assigned, tracked and completed within project timelines.
- Facilitate project meetings with a consistent cadence, capturing action items and ensuring stakeholders remain aligned on progress.
Design Engineering & New Product Development
- Participate in design aspects of new local products, including:
- Creating drawings and BOMs
- Developing processes
- Building prototypes
- Performing testing
- Acquiring necessary certifications/compliance
- Communicate with external vendors to source new or alternate parts as needed.
- Estimate costs and create required documentation for special/non-standard orders.
Cost Reduction & Continuous Improvement
- Support the reduction of manufacturing costs through design and process changes, implementation of new equipment and creative problem-solving.
- Drive continuous improvements to strengthen safety, quality, cost and delivery outcomes.
Quality Ownership
- Maintain uncompromising quality across work processes in your area of responsibility, with the authority to stop processes if quality may be compromised.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring (Qualifications)
Required Skills & Capabilities
- Strong CAD skills, 2D (AutoCAD or DraftSight) and 3D (SOLIDWORKS).
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
- Self-starter mindset – able to work independently, prioritize tasks and ask questions when needed.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working across diverse stakeholders and functions; collaborative and professional interpersonal style.
- Ability to receive coaching/feedback and incorporate it constructively.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
- Electrical knowledge and understanding of field instruments.
- Experience with hazardous location requirements and ratings.
- Knowledge of process related standards such as ASTM, ANSI, NFPA and others.
Education & Experience
- BS degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- 1 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or design work is preferred (but not required).
Working Conditions
Environment
- Work performed in office setting (~70%) and manufacturing facility (~30%).
- Will occasionally require attending meetings with international members (headquarters and affiliates) outside normal operating business hours.
Physical Demand
- The employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for a reasonable amount of time.
- At times, may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
