Accountant
Position is responsible for lead accounting on all grant activity, and also assists the CFO in financial reporting, payroll, and employee benefits compliance. This role works closely with the CEO and CFO on budgeting, month-end close, reconciliations, and board reporting.
Responsibilities include managing federal and state grants, processing weekly payroll and taxes, and
assisting with benefits administration and regulatory filings (ACA, 401(k), pension, workers' compensation, and unemployment).
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable in GAAP and payroll compliance, and able to manage
confidential information and multiple deadlines. CPA strongly preferred. Salary range $80k-$105k D.O.Q.
This position provides financial leadership for Cooperative grant activities and assists the CFO with
developing and administering the budget, producing and maintaining financial statements, providing
variance reports, and reporting and advising the CEO & CFO on key financial matters.
This role also serves as the Cooperative’s subject matter expert for Payroll and assists with Employee
Benefits Administration. The position ensures accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing;
administration of employee and volunteer benefit programs; regulatory compliance; and HR-related
financial reporting.
Works closely with the Project Management team to manage federal and state grant accounting and
provides pre-audit level support for all grants. Provides leadership presence in the office during
regular business hours and provides backup support for IT systems and certain financial functions.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, with a C.P.A certification, or the prerequisite
coursework to obtain a C.P.A. Minimum of four years of experience performing accounting functions.
Experience in payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and regulatory compliance
preferred. Electric Cooperative experience is a plus.
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Working knowledge of payroll regulations, benefits compliance (ACA, COBRA, ERISA), leave
administration (PFL, ADA, FMLA), and related reporting requirements.
Skill in analyzing complex accounting and compliance issues and developing resolutions.
Ability to prioritize and complete multiple, time-sensitive tasks with accuracy.
Strong technology proficiency including payroll systems, time & attendance systems, and Enterprise
Resource Planning systems (preferably NISC iVue).
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and employee information.
Effective communication and employee education skills.
