About the Company
Our client designs and builds equipment for demanding subsea environments, including underwater propulsion units, motion systems, and other specialized assemblies. They offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with a collaborative team environment where employees can contribute to innovative, high-impact projects.
About the Role
We are seeking an early-career Mechanical Engineer who enjoys taking ideas from concept through detailed design and into the shop, and who is comfortable working on both new product development and support of existing products. This role works closely with other engineers, production, purchasing, and quality personnel to create and refine components and assemblies used in subsea applications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine mechanical designs for underwater systems and related hardware, from concept sketches through detailed 3D models and released documentation.
- Prepare and maintain engineering deliverables such as models, prints, parts lists, and supporting documentation for production and field use.
- Perform hand calculations and basic computer-based checks to confirm that parts and assemblies will withstand expected loads and operating conditions.
- Contribute to the definition of requirements, design reviews, and technical discussions for both standard products and custom projects.
- Support the build, assembly, and testing of prototypes and production units by working closely with technicians and production staff on the shop floor.
- Investigate fit, function, and reliability issues on existing designs; propose and implement practical design updates or corrective actions.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams when questions arise on materials, fabrication methods, or inspection criteria.
- Assist in maintaining and improving internal processes related to documentation, product release, and continuous improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Approximately 3–5+ years of relevant engineering experience in an industrial, product development, or similar environment.
- Experience using modern 3D design tools in a professional or academic setting to create parts, assemblies, and associated documentation.
- Familiarity with applying dimensional requirements on prints and considering how variation in individual features can affect overall fit and function.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear technical notes, summaries, or reports describing design intent, test results, or investigation findings.
- Exposure to a production or workshop environment where you have interacted with machinists, fabricators, or assemblers, or have built hardware yourself.
- Experience working within an organization that uses structured procedures, part numbering, and documented methods for controlling changes to products.
- Awareness of basic process-improvement concepts and an interest in helping streamline how work flows from engineering through manufacturing.
Preferred Skills
- Prior involvement in hands-on projects (academic, competition, hobby, or professional) where you tested and iterated on mechanical systems such as vehicles, mechanisms, or automated devices.
- Interest in or exposure to devices that combine mechanical components with motors, sensors, wiring, and basic control hardware.
- Comfortable using common hand tools and measurement tools during assembly support and troubleshooting activities.
- Strong mechanical intuition, curiosity about how things are made, and a willingness to dig into failures or unexpected behavior to find root causes.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while communicating effectively in a small, multi-disciplinary team.
- Proficiency with standard office software for documentation, presentations, and basic data analysis.
Compensation
