Finance Officer – City of Fort Pierre, South Dakota
Salary: $110,000 + Exceptional Benefits | $2,000 Hiring Bonus
Are you a governmental accounting professional ready to lead, influence, and make a visible impact in a thriving rural community? The City of Fort Pierre is seeking a strategic, hands-on Finance Officer to oversee all financial and administrative operations for the entire municipality.
This is far more than a traditional accounting role. As the City’s chief financial leader, you will serve as a key advisor to the Mayor and City Council, oversee critical municipal operations, and ensure the financial integrity of a full-service city providing water, sewer, and electric utilities to its residents.

Key Responsibilities
- Direct all municipal accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Develop, manage, and monitor the City’s annual budget and all revenues and expenditures
- Oversee payroll administration and human resources compliance
- Ensure compliance with local ordinances, state statutes, and federal regulations
- Administer municipal elections in accordance with state law
- Collaborate with department heads on financial planning and operational strategy
- Maintain strong public relations through daily interaction with residents, customers, and constituents
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Management
- Experience in governmental or municipal accounting
- Strong knowledge of public sector budgeting and compliance requirements
- Leadership skills with the ability to supervise staff and work cross-functionally
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
- Strong communicator who enjoys public engagement
Compensation & Benefits
- $110,000 annual salary (commensurate with qualifications and experience)
- $2,000 Hiring Bonus

Work Schedule
