Role Overview
As a Marketing intern, you report to the VP of Community Marketing, effectively execute marketing and advertising strategies, develop solid internal relationships, and manage your own projects and assignments.
**The expected duration of the internship will be June 1st, 2026 through July 24th, 2026.**
The Learner in Residence
- Collaborate with Marketing pros to learn how real-world marketing strategies are built and executed
- Create and present marketing materials, campaign concepts, strategies, and basic budgets
- Build your knowledge of media channels, campaign performance, and how media placements work
- Help format, organize, and present marketing plans, timelines, and reports
- Learn how Cortland's philosophy, values, and policies shape our work — and keep our projects compliant and on track
- Demonstrate the ability to absorb and understand business strategies related to the customer and resident experience/journey.
- Support data-driven decision making by reviewing, interpreting, and synthesizing customer research and performance data to help identify insights and recommendations.
The Momentum Maker
- Support a variety of marketing initiatives — from managing production calendars to contributing to digital and social media campaigns
- Work closely with the Branding and Communications teams throughout the creative process
- Partner with teams and communities across Cortland to better understand their marketing needs
- Take ownership of assigned projects and present your work to the team
- Research and suggest improvements that make our processes more efficient and impactful
The Networker
- Jump into as many formal and informal learning opportunities as you can
- Ask teammates (including senior leaders) about the marketing industry and the many career paths available at Cortland
- Broaden your knowledge of the business by connecting with colleagues in other areas like Supply Chain, Design, Investments, Talent, IT, Facilities, Operations, and Construction
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Advertising, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.)
- Basic understanding of marketing principles, branding, and content development
- Eagerness to learn new tools, platforms, and marketing technologies
- Comfortable analyzing information and drawing simple insights from data
- Self‑starter mindset with the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team
- Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other design tools
- Exposure to digital marketing concepts like SEO, paid media, analytics, and content strategy
- Ability to think creatively and contribute fresh ideas
- Strong attention to detail and quality of work
