Social Media Manager / Account Manager
Brand Gloss | Richmond, VA
Approximately 35–40 Hours/Week | Flexible Schedule
$25–$28/hour | 1099 Independent Contractor
Potential to Transition into a Permanent Salaried Role by End of Year
About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate, strategic social media manager who understands that impactful social media goes far beyond surface-level graphics. You’re a go-getter and outside-the-box thinker who loves all things social media, from crafting compelling strategies to creating authority-building content.
As the right-hand person to the founder and photographer at Brand Gloss, you’ll work directly with clients to tell their stories on social media. You have an eye for composition and social-worthy moments, and you’re just as comfortable behind the camera as you are developing strategy.
This is a high-volume contractor role with a flexible, hybrid schedule. Your week will look different depending on client needs. Some days you'll be on-site for content shoots and in-person collaboration, and other days you'll be working remotely. You'll have access to Brand Gloss HQ whenever you need a dedicated space to work. Our clients are service-based businesses, so an understanding of how to market services — not products — is essential. Because the schedule varies week to week, it's essential that you're based in Richmond, VA or the immediate surrounding area.
We’re building something impactful here, and we want you to grow with us. This engagement includes a 6-month check-in with the potential to transition into a permanent salaried position by the end of the year for the right person.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work directly with clients and collaborate closely with the founding team. Day-to-day, no two weeks look the same. You might be on a client shoot Tuesday, working remotely Wednesday, and back on-site Friday. The team typically comes together in person on Wednesdays at Brand Gloss HQ.
- Develop and execute social media strategies that drive real results for clients
- Create engaging content briefs including graphics, videos, and photography
- Manage client communication and relationships
- Plan and maintain content calendars across multiple client accounts
- Write compelling, on-brand captions
- Attend on-site content shoots and in-person team collaboration days throughout the week
- Track analytics and provide performance reports
- Stay ahead of platform trends and algorithm changes
- Collaborate with our team on concepts and launches
What We’re Looking ForRequired Experience (minimum 2 years):
- Minimum 2 years of social media management and strategy development (non-negotiable)
- Content creation (photo and video)
- Client communication and relationship management
- Copywriting with strong writing skills
- A strong eye for brand aesthetics and design. Our graphic designer handles the heavy lifting, but you need to know what looks good and why
- Portfolio demonstrating proven results and past client work
Required Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in CapCut for video editing
- Strong working knowledge of Canva for graphic design
- Experience with project management tools (ClickUp, Asana, Notion, or similar)
- Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms
Preferred:
- Experience in the beauty industry is a strong plus. If you don’t have it, a genuine passion for the space and a willingness to fully immerse yourself is a must, this isn’t a world you can fake your way through.
Who You Are
- A creative thinker who also loves to strategize
- A self-starter who takes initiative and doesn’t need to be micromanaged
- A self-motivated team player who thrives in high-trust environments
- Extremely detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple client accounts
- Someone who holds themselves to high standards
- Ready to hit the ground running and committed to showing up fully in this role
Work Environment & BenefitsSchedule:
- This role is flexible by nature. You set your own schedule around project needs and client shoots. You'll need to be local to Richmond, VA, and available for in-person shoots and occasional team collaboration throughout the week. Brand Gloss HQ is available to you anytime you need a dedicated space to work.
Benefits & Perks:
- Flexible scheduling
- Professional development opportunities
- Networking within the beauty and creative industries
- Complimentary headshots/photography sessions
- Opportunity to transition to a permanent salaried role by end of year based on performance
You’ll collaborate with a group of hardworking, creative people who are passionate about what they do and hold themselves to high standards.
What This Role Is NOT
- A position where you rely on AI to do the heavy lifting instead of bringing your own creative strategy and voice
- A fit for primarily remote applicants who aren’t available for regular in-person collaboration and shoots
- A role for someone who isn’t able to commit to a flexible, variable weekly schedule
- For someone who views social media as “just posting”
