Crayons, cameras, and deadlines. Sound interesting? Watch this before you read another word: https://vimeo.com/1176346409/4c310fc26e?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci
We're going to be straight with you. We've hired designers before and not all of them worked out. Rather than dress this up, we'd rather just tell you what the job actually is so you can decide if it's a good fit before either of us wastes time.
Who We Are
DoodleFace makes colorable wipe-away crayon toys that kids love. TeacherGeek has been putting hands-on STEM kits into classrooms for over 20 years. We build everything right here in western New York and sell across multiple online marketplaces and our own storefront.
We shoot our own photography and make our own content. We move fast because we have to. Quality matters a lot around here, but so does getting things done. This role is right in the middle of all of it.
What You'll Do
- Design product packaging, Amazon listings, retail packaging, and print collateral
- Shoot and edit product photography... studio and lifestyle... using our Sony A7- Create short-form video content for TikTok, ads, and social platforms
- Design for web and print: landing pages, digital ads, sell sheets, trade show materials
- Work directly in Shopify... updating pages, banners, and layouts without a developer for every change
- Speak up when you see something that could be better
- Dip into marketing: campaigns, creative testing, understanding what actually moves the needle
What We Need
No degree required, but preferred. This is a professional role. It's not the place to build toward that level, it's the place to bring it.
Adobe Creative Suite: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop Illustrator, Premiere Pro
You need to know these well. Not "I've used them." Comfortable and fast. A strong eye for composition hierarchy, balance, whitespace, color. Does your work make people stop? Your portfolio will tell us more than anything else.
Photography and video at a professional level.
Studio setups, lighting, retouching, lifestyle shooting. Good personal photography is a solid start but this job needs commercial quality output. Be honest with yourself about where you are before applying.
Shopify and basic web.
You don't need to be a developer but you should be able to get into Shopify and make changes without breaking things. Knowing a little CSS goes a long way... understanding why something looks off and having some idea how to fix it.
AI tools.
We use them and you should too. Not instead of skill, just as part of how you work.
Speed.
The workload is real and deadlines are real. We need great work done at a good pace. If you do your best work under pressure you'll fit in well here. Pride in the details. You catch the thing that's slightly off before anyone says anything. You suggest the better option. You care because you just do.
THIS ROLE ISN'T THE RIGHT FIT IF...
You need every task fully detailed before you can start
- Your best work takes weeks... we need your best work to take days
- Feedback is hard to hear rather than something that sharpens the work
- "Done" means exported rather than genuinely good No judgment... those are real working styles. They're just not what this role calls for.
What You Get
- Real variety... short sprints and long builds alike. Some days you're turning around a quick asset, some projects run for weeks
- Small team, real ownership... your work ships- Exposure across photography, video, web, marketing, and manufacturing
- Products that kids and teachers genuinely love
- Honest feedback... you'll always know where you stand and have room to grow as we scale.
Don't forget to send your portfolio.
