Senior Python Developer
Location: Jersey City, NJ (3x onsite weekly)
Duration: 18 months
Employment Type: W2 only (USC/GC)
Pay Rate: $68–70/hr
Overview We’re looking for a mid-to-senior level Python Developer to join a Market Risk Technology team. This group is responsible for aggregating data across lines of business and building systems that assess trade exposure risk—essentially answering “what happens if something goes wrong with a trade?”
This is an ongoing need, not a short-term project. The work sits close to portfolio managers and risk stakeholders, so there’s real business impact.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Building and enhancing applications used for:
- Market Risk Regulatory Reporting
- VaR (Value at Risk) analysis
- Limit Management
- Counterparty and issuer risk
- Pulling and processing large datasets across multiple systems
- Supporting the full lifecycle:
- Development → UAT → Production release → Post-release support
- Collaborating with:
- Business Analysts during UAT
- Production Support during releases
- Risk and portfolio management teams
Core Tech Stack
- Primary: Python (≈85% of the role)
- UI: React (or similar frontend tech)
- Scheduling/Workflow: Quartz (preferred) or alternatives like Athena
- Databases: SQL / NoSQL, Sybase, DB2, Oracle
- Other:
- UNIX / shell scripting
- Git (or similar version control)
Must-Have Skills
- Strong Python development experience (multi-threading, ORM, Flask/Django)
- Solid understanding of React or other UI frameworks (not heavy frontend, but must be comfortable)
- Experience with Quartz or similar scheduling tools
- Strong SQL skills with relational databases
- Experience working in data-heavy or risk-related environments
- Ability to support applications end-to-end (development through production)
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Market Risk systems or financial services
- Experience with Big Data processing frameworks
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Mid to Senior-level engineer
- Background in Python-heavy backend development with some UI exposure
- Experience working on enterprise-level applications (enhancements, migrations, or new builds)
- Comfortable in a fast-moving, high-stakes financial environment

Work Setup
- Hybrid: 3 days onsite per week
- No fully remote option
