Role Description In this full-time, on-site Mechanical Engineer role based in Cottage Grove, MN, you will design, develop, and refine mechanical components and assemblies for medical devices across the product lifecycle. You will create and update 3D models, detailed drawings, and specifications using CAD tools, ensuring designs meet performance, safety, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements. Daily work includes collaborating with R&D, electrical, software, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to translate requirements into robust mechanical solutions and to support rapid prototyping and design iterations. You will participate in design reviews, perform tolerance stack-ups and basic analysis, and support verification, validation, and testing activities. The role also involves coordinating with suppliers, supporting tooling and manufacturing process development, documenting engineering work in a structured manner, and contributing to continuous improvement of design and development practices.
Qualifications
- Strong core Mechanical Engineering foundation, including mechanics, materials, and thermofluids, with experience applying these principles to real-world designs.
- Proficiency in Machine Design, including component selection, mechanisms, and design for manufacturability and assembly in a regulated environment.
- Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for 3D modeling and 2D drawings, including GD&T and revision control.
- Background in Research and Development (R&D), including prototyping, experimentation, data analysis, and iterative design improvement.
- Project Management capabilities to plan tasks, manage timelines, coordinate cross-functional work, and communicate status to stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; advanced degree is a plus.
- Experience with medical devices, plastics, balloon technologies, or precision tooling is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work on-site in a laboratory and manufacturing environment, collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams, and follow quality and regulatory procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and proficiency with standard engineering documentation and report writing.
