Artificial Lift Control Room Operator (ALCRO)Job Description
The Artificial Lift Control Room Operator (ALCRO) is responsible for real-time monitoring, control, and optimization of artificial lift systems and associated production equipment across multiple assets. This role functions as a remote operator, actively managing well and equipment performance rather than passively monitoring systems.
The ALCRO applies operational experience and technical knowledge to diagnose issues, adjust operating parameters, and make risk-based decisions that protect production, extend equipment life, and ensure safe operations. This position requires strong situational awareness, independent decision-making, and the ability to manage a high volume of assets in a fast-paced control room environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and control artificial lift wells and compression systems across multiple assets and fields
- Perform real-time surveillance to identify abnormal operating conditions or early indicators of equipment failure
- Adjust operating parameters (e.g., speed, cycles, setpoints) to optimize production while maintaining equipment integrity
- Diagnose equipment and well performance issues using live and historical data trends
- Respond to alarms by executing appropriate corrective actions and determining escalation requirements
- Make real-time, risk-based decisions regarding intervention, continued monitoring, or field dispatch
- Prevent equipment failures through proactive monitoring and early intervention
- Reduce unnecessary field callouts by resolving issues remotely when possible
- Maintain accurate logs, event documentation, and detailed shift handovers
- Coordinate with field operations, engineering, and automation teams to ensure alignment on operational activities
- Adhere to operating procedures, safety protocols, and defined equipment limits at all times
Skills And QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2–5 years of experience in artificial lift, compression, or production operations
- Experience in roles such as Production Operator, Artificial Lift Technician, Compression Operator, or similar
- Hands-on experience starting, stopping, and troubleshooting artificial lift systems or compressors
- Prior field operations experience strongly preferred
- Experience with remote operations or SCADA systems preferred
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of artificial lift systems (e.g., ESP, gas lift, plunger lift)
- Understanding of compression systems and rotating equipment
- Experience interpreting operational data such as pressure, temperature, load, speed, and electrical parameters
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and remote monitoring/control platforms
- Understanding of well performance fundamentals, including production behavior and equipment interaction
- Knowledge of safe operating limits, shutdown systems, and restart procedures
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and stabilize operations in real time
Core Competencies
- Strong situational awareness and ability to make decisions under pressure
- Effective alarm management and prioritization skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities
- High level of operational discipline and adherence to procedures
- Ability to manage multiple assets and tasks simultaneously
- Clear and effective communication with cross-functional teams
