About The Role
As a Backend Software Engineer on the Rider Intelligence team, you will build the high-scale, distributed systems that power the Uber home screen, serving as the primary gateway for hundreds of millions of global users. You will collaborate closely with Machine Learning engineers to integrate models that deeply understand user intent and context, transforming a vast marketplace of mobility and delivery services into a seamless, personalized experience. Your work will involve designing low-latency, mission-critical services that synthesize diverse content into a unified home screen, ensuring every user interaction is convenient, performant, and deeply relevant.
What You Will Do
- Design, build, and operate scalable backend services for large-scale heterogeneous ranking systems
- Partner with machine learning engineers to productionize and iterate on ML models that improve the relevance and quality of personalized content
- Collaborate closely with Product and Marketing teams to ship features that have a direct impact on user engagement and business growth.
- Write clean, maintainable code and participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident responses
Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in backend or platform software engineering.
- Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (e.g., Go, Java).
- Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, OOP).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing or operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with building or working on recommendation systems or personalization
- Familiarity with machine learning lifecycle, including feature engineering, A/B testing and deploying models to production.
- Experience with real-time data processing and event-driven architectures.
- Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and performance tuning skills.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$171,000 per year - USD$190,000 per year. You will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
