Position Overview
Kickapoo Nation School is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Business Manager to oversee the school’s financial operations and ensure fiscal integrity, transparency, and compliance. This leadership position is responsible for budgeting, accounting, payroll, procurement, grant compliance, Human Resource, and financial reporting in accordance with Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) requirements, Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) requirements, federal and state laws, tribal governance authority, and federal grant regulations.
The Business Manager plays a vital role in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting audits, and serving as a trusted financial advisor to the Superintendent and School Board.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage the annual school budget in collaboration with school leadership
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger operations
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to KSDE, federal agencies, and the School Board
- Administer federal, state, and tribal grants (ESSA, ISEP, IDEA, etc.) in compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard school assets
- Coordinate annual independent audits and respond to audit findings
- Ensure compliance with procurement laws and competitive bidding requirements
- Oversee Human Resources - onboarding, benefits, and related functions.
- Oversee cash management, banking relationships, and asset tracking
- Supervise and evaluate business office personnel
- Monitor budget performance and provide financial forecasting and analysis
- Maintain compliance with payroll filings, tax reporting, and regulatory requirements
- Advise leadership on fiscal policy, financial planning, and long-term sustainability
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (required)
- CPA preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in governmental, school finance, or nonprofit accounting
- Knowledge of Kansas school finance laws and KSDE reporting requirements preferred
- Experience managing federal grant funds and compliance requirements
- Strong understanding of federal procurement standards (2 CFR Part 200)
- Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency in accounting and financial management systems
- Ability to successfully complete required background check

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
