Industrial Designer
The Designer works as part of a team and individually to develop solutions for customer packaging requirements. This position is based out of our Lewisburg, TN location. Some travel is required. Candidate must have a valid driver’s license. Standard working hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Some overtime and weekend shifts will be required. This position reports to the Department Manager or their designate.
Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Development of designs to meet or exceed all customer requirements and expectations.
- Development and maintenance of 3D Models (Solidworks), project bills of materials, drawing packages, and related project documentation.
- Releasing Projects for prototyping and production.
- Review of designs or prototypes with shop / sub-contractors for Fit Form and Function
- Review of designs or prototypes with customers and recording of all change requests
- Reverse engineer supplied designs from physical samples, or drawings.
- Resolve product design and quality issues.
- Learn, recognize, and apply standard designs and customer standards as applicable.
Project Management
- Work on multiple projects and tasks at various stages of development concurrently.
- Manage time effectively to achieve deadlines.
- Support and communicate with Production Control, Project & Program Managers, Manufacturing teams, and Customers as required.
- Support quoting and purchasing activities as required.
- Provide inputs to ongoing scheduling and task management activities.
Production Support
- Provide support to production and Quality Control departments
- Preparation and maintenance of all required project documentation
- Prepare quality check sheets
- Assist with fixture development
- Review and Approval of 1st articles at PakFab or Subcontractor’s facility– release of projects for full production
- Assist production in solving issues which arise during production
- Assist with confirming quality of incoming materials.
Other duties as assigned included but not limited to:
- Prepare drawings based off existing assemblies and parts
- Input into development and improvement of processes, systems, and standards
- Offer expertise and experience in brainstorming discussions
- Support Corporate/Departmental Policies & Procedures
- Some interaction with customers
- Hands-on support of Prototype and manufacturing Departments
Requirements
- Minimum 2-5 years of design experience
- Strong working knowledge of Solidworks and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of steel fabrication, materials and manufacturing processes
- Self-motivated, results oriented, budget minded
- Creative, methodical thinker and problem solver
- Excellent attention to detail
- Thrives in fast paced and dynamic environment under high pressure
- Effective communicator
- Positive attitude
- Experience with automotive racking, or packaging an asset
- Experience with product design and development an asset
- Engineering degree an asset
