Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Manufacturing Engineer role based in San Diego, CA. The Manufacturing Engineer will develop, improve, and document manufacturing processes for underwater equipment, ensuring products are built safely, efficiently, and to specification. Daily responsibilities include creating and updating work instructions, routings, and process documentation; collaborating with design engineering to transition new products into production; and supporting shop floor teams with technical guidance and troubleshooting. The role will involve analyzing production data to reduce defects and waste, optimizing workflows and equipment utilization, and driving continuous improvement initiatives using lean and quality tools. The Manufacturing Engineer will also coordinate with suppliers, support tooling and fixture design, and help ensure compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Manufacturing Engineering and Manufacturing Processes, with the ability to design, optimize, and document production methods.
- Background in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering, including familiarity with design-for-manufacture, ergonomics, and efficiency improvement.
- Hands-on experience with Machining or close collaboration with machinists, including understanding of tolerances, tooling, and production sequencing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Proficiency with CAD and basic design tools; experience with ERP/MRP systems and creating bills of materials and routings is preferred.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, PDCA) is beneficial.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams on the shop floor and in engineering.
- Experience in a precision manufacturing, marine, aerospace, or similar highly engineered product environment is a plus.
