Tesla is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer in the Autopilot and Electronics Product Design team to work on vehicle accessories (phone/laptop charging, multimedia storage, etc.). Vehicle autonomy re-defines in-cabin accessories, requiring innovative mechanical solutions. Tesla is unique place for a mechanical engineer to own accessory designs from first principles to mass production. Looking for various experience levels - Senior, Staff etc.
What You'll Do
Work closely with interior, design Studio and LV architecture to enable best USB hub, wireless phone chargers, Tesla SSDs and KeycardsOptimize the components in the vehicle while considering performance, design, integration, size, mass, assembly and more Participate in prototype builds, component fabrication, testing and validation efforts Own design of mechanical components and assemblies including PCBA outline, connector selection, fan integration, magnet selection, plastic enclosures, die cast etc.Conduct mechanical design analysis including structural, tolerance, FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and design for assembly Generate detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and documentation of mechanical designs using CATIA and collaborate with other cross-functional teams to take designs from prototype through production and deployment Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues and communicate with suppliers regarding DFM (Design for Manufacturing) feedback and support tooling and assembly bring up
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experienceMinimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design Experience in the development of consumer electronics products Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA/3DX preferred) for 3D modeling and drafting Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools (ANSYS preferred) Experience taking designs from initial concept through to mass production Basic understanding of electrical and thermal design fundamentals. Familiarity with PCBAs, electronics packaging and consume electronics technologies Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to perform first principles analysis to ensure a successful design (physics, stress-strain, thermal, tolerance, cost and mass optimization, etc.) Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Expected Compensation
$130,400 - $234,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
