The Tooling, Process, and Training team is responsible for developing the hardware and processes used during the installation, commissioning, and service of Tesla Energy products. This individual will keep pushing the energy industry forward by working closely with internal customers to identify, develop, and refine practical solutions to enable efficient installation and service of Megapack, Powerwall, Supercharger, and residential solar. The ideal candidate is someone who gets excited solving a variety of problems, is highly analytical, and sees the big picture needed to evolve a concept into a product.
What You'll Do
Own the end-to-end mechanical design of service and installation tooling used in residential and industrial energy applications Define requirements, prototype fast, iterate faster, and drive production releases Specify performance and reliability tests during the design phase, and later create the design documentation to ensure that each order of tools meets our quality standards Design service tools with both cost and reliability in mind. Work with suppliers to scale from prototypes to low/medium volume production orders while reducing unit cost Work across teams at Tesla, including process engineering, service engineering, technical publications, and compliance, to drive continuous improvement of our tools and processes
What You'll Bring
1-3+ years of experience designing for common manufacturing methods including machining, sheet metal forming, injection molding, welding, and 3d printing Ability to work from engineering first principles to solve novel problems and complete projects under tight deadlines Strong 3D CAD experience, Solidworks or 3DX preferred Experience developing and maintaining engineering deliverables using PLM software (Enovia preferred) over the lifecycle of a product Excellent fundamental engineering knowledge with examples of applied engineering success through past work, projects, or academic endeavors Knowledge of structural and thermal FEA experience is a plus

Expected Compensation
$91,600 - $164,400/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
