What To Expect
Tesla’s Materials Engineering group is looking for a highly motivated Process Engineer to work on a critical challenge facing the world’s energy transition – Battery Recycling, metals and materials engineering.
As a process engineer in our metals and materials group, you will lead the development and deployment of new-to-the world chemical production processes and equipment. A successful team member will lead projects starting from the concept through design, install, integration, ramp, and handover to operations teams.
What You'll Do
Operate pilot plantsOversee and deploy demonstration scale facilities through the whole project lifecycle including: concept, basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operationSupport commercial scale designDevelop operating procedures, safety protocols, and maintenance plans for large-scale chemical process equipmentSupport operations teams with achieving productivity and material quality targets on pilot and commercial scale systems Interface with equipment suppliers through concept development, system design, detailed design, procurement, installation, and acceptance testingWork closely with battery materials R&D team for the introduction of novel materials and new process methods at commercial scaleReceive and evaluate a problem statement, brainstorm and downselect solutions ensuring priority metrics (time, quality and cost) are maintained, get stakeholder buy-in, design & purchase equipment, create install instructions and lead commissioningLead Design for a section of large capital scope (>$5MM). Develop design with cross functional team (P&ID, M&EB, Line/Equipment Sizing, modelling), drive consensus followed by FRQ submissions & following project through FAT of equipment, install and commissioning. Developing and maintaining process flow diagrams, process design criteria, stream tables, and piping & instrumentation diagrams
What You'll Bring
Evidence of exceptional ability, including understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability to leverage this understanding to solve challenging problemsDegree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Ceramics Engineering or related field, or equivalent experienceExperience with either powder handling, hydrometallurgy, or chemical processingLiquid/Gas Fluid Calculations, Heat Transfer, Thermal equipment (Dryers or Kilns), Powder Mixing & Conveying, Powder loading and dosing, Solid-liquid separation equipment, Reactors, Evaporators, crystallizers1-5 years in a process design experience using the skills listed aboveParticipation in engineering projects from concept development to commissioningExperience in brownfield projects in existing plants
