Landscape Designer / Estimator — MTH Landscaping, Inc.
Location: Carsonville, MI and surrounding service areas
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000–$85,000+, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Help us turn landscape ideas into clear, buildable, profitable projects.
MTH Landscaping, Inc. is growing across Michigan’s Thumb and Blue Water Area. We install and maintain high-quality residential and commercial landscapes, and we are building a stronger design/build process for larger residential projects.
We are hiring a Landscape Designer / Estimator to help us sell, design, estimate, and hand off landscape projects the right way.
This is not just a “pretty design” position. We need someone who can turn customer ideas into clear visuals, accurate estimates, realistic scopes, and field-ready instructions for our crews.
Is this you?
You may be a fit if you:
- Understand landscape construction, hardscapes, planting, grading, drainage, and outdoor living projects.
- Can turn rough ideas into simple, clear designs or visuals.
- Care whether the job can actually be built profitably.
- Communicate well with customers, salespeople, operations, project managers, and crews.
- Like organizing details, photos, site notes, materials, and revisions.
- Want to help build a stronger design/build system inside a growing company.
What you’ll do
- Meet with sales and customers to understand project goals, budget, style, site conditions, and timeline.
- Create concept plans, sketches, layouts, renderings, or design packages based on project size.
- Build or support estimates using labor, materials, equipment, production rates, and margin targets.
- Help prepare clear proposals for residential landscape installation projects.
- Create quick field visuals for smaller projects when needed, such as photo markups, plant placement sketches, bed layouts, access maps, staging notes, or simple renderings.
- Identify scope gaps, unclear details, site risks, material lead times, and production concerns before the job is sold.
- Build clean handoff packages for install operations, including plans, scope, estimate notes, access details, photos, materials, and customer expectations.
- Work with sales, operations, project managers, and foremen so jobs are sold and built with fewer surprises.
- Help improve MTH’s design/build process as we grow.
What success looks like
- Larger projects are designed, estimated, and handed off clearly.
- Smaller projects get practical visuals when crews need more clarity.
- Sales can move faster because estimates and design details are not stuck.
- Install crews receive better information before work starts.
- Customers have more confidence in what they are buying.
- Gross margin is protected because scope, labor, materials, and expectations are clear.
- Rework, callbacks, confusion, and missed finish details go down.
Experience we’d like to see
Preferred experience includes one or more of the following:
- Landscape design
- Landscape estimating
- Design/build sales support
- Hardscape or outdoor living planning
- Landscape construction project management
- Field experience in landscape installation
- LMN, CAD, Dynascape, SketchUp, Structure Studios, AutoCAD, or similar design/estimating tools
We are open to the right person even if you are stronger in one area than another. If you are a strong designer who wants to learn estimating, or a strong estimator who understands design/build, we would love to talk.
