Think of us as a 100-year-old startup. As one of the oldest and most highly capitalized credit unions in the U.S., Liberty Bay Credit Union is arguably the best-kept secret in the financial space. We combine a century of New England stability with a fresh, high-energy purpose: to fuel the earning potential and personal ambitions of our hardworking members. We pride ourselves on delivering large-scale financial solutions while maintaining a personalized, community-focused culture. Because our team is lean and collaborative, every employee—including our interns—plays a vital role in our success.
We are currently undergoing a major system migration to upgrade our foundational technology stack. We are looking for a sharp, detail-oriented Data Analyst Intern to join our team and help ensure this transition is seamless. In this hands-on role, you will get out of the classroom and dive into real-world database architecture, data governance, and system integration. You will work directly with our IT and data teams to validate migrating data, build SQL views for reporting, and assist with API endpoints that connect our new systems.
Requirements
What You Will Do
- Data Validation & Quality Assurance: Write and execute scripts to compare legacy system data against the new system. Identify discrepancies, troubleshoot errors, and ensure high data integrity throughout the migration pipeline
- Build Data Views: Develop and optimize SQL queries to build database views that will support business intelligence, regulatory reporting, and daily operations in the new environment
- API Support: Assist the integration team in testing, documenting, and managing RESTful API calls to ensure data flows securely and accurately between third-party applications and our core system
- Process Documentation: Help document the new data architecture, data dictionaries, and migration workflows for future training and reference
What We Are Looking For
- Education: You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field
- Technical Skills:
- Solid foundation in relational databases and SQL (ability to write joins, create views, and filter complex datasets)
- Basic understanding of APIs (REST, JSON, Postman or similar API testing tools)
- Familiarity with Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) or data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Looker) is a plus
- Problem Solver: You have a naturally analytical mindset and enjoy hunting down the root cause of a data mismatch
- Team Player: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical data concepts to non-technical team members
What You Will Gain
- Real-World Experience: Play a direct role in a high-stakes, multi-million dollar system migration
- Mentorship: Work side-by-side with experienced data professionals in the financial services sector
- Portfolio Building: Leave with concrete examples of SQL development, system integration, and data validation to showcase in your future job hunt
