Zeta Energy is an energy storage (battery) company developing next-generation Lithium-Sulfur technology, located in Houston, Texas. Zeta Energy has an opportunity for a highly motivated and technically talented chemical engineer to work on a critical mission to develop and scale up high-performing battery electrode materials and processes.
We are looking for a high-impact contributor who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious professional who works with intensity, takes initiative to propose new ideas, and is eager to grow their career rapidly alongside our scaling organization.
As Zeta Energy transitions its game-changing technology from the laboratory to the factory floor, the chemical engineer will support the commercialization of patented, high-energy, high-power, and low-cost cathode and anode materials. The chemical engineer will develop, operate, and optimize chemical/material production processes, equipment, and processing facilities to produce consistent, high-purity, and high-throughput battery materials. This includes execution of projects from concept through process design, procurement, equipment building/assembly, integration of control and safety systems, operation, and continuous maintenance. The chemical engineer will possess a fine blend of conceptual, analytical, and hands-on skills in process & equipment design/analysis and equipment operation/maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Rigorously apply chemical engineering fundamentals to solve technical problems involving design and operation of chemical reactors and powder processing equipment for battery materials synthesis and production
- Design and optimize chemical processes & equipment and operate/maintain reactors and processing equipment, e.g., tube reactor, fixed bed reactor, fluidized bed reactor, chemical vapor deposition reactor, and/or powder mixing equipment
- Material production in chemical reactors and responsibility overseeing the process from start to finish
- Utilize available resources and subject matter experts, e.g., company scientists, equipment manufacturers/parts suppliers, or partners to leverage knowledge into process designs and solutions to technical problems
- Provide creative and conceptual process/equipment design input for chemical/material production
- Develop and implement process control/automation for reactors and processing equipment
- Develop and implement process engineering best practices and standard operating procedures
- Formulate scaling methodologies and conceptual designs to facilitate the transition of laboratory-scale chemical reactors to industrial-grade systems..
- Use a variety of characterization tools and instruments, such as microscopy, spectroscopy, diffraction, thermogravimetry, calorimetry, chromatography, residual gas analysis, pyrometry, etc., to diagnose and troubleshoot process challenges
- Drive integration of material development and cell engineering to ensure seamless incorporation of novel components into battery systems.
- Actively identify and champion new initiatives to improve processes, product performance, or team efficiency.
The following are required from the candidate:
- BS or equivalent in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, physical science, or a related discipline
- A high-energy, proactive mindset with a strong bias for action and a desire for rapid professional growth.
- Demonstrated experience in the execution of chemical reactor processes for laboratory synthesis and/or industrial production from concept development through operation
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and demonstrated ability and practical experience in applying this understanding to solve complex and challenging technical problems
- Working knowledge and experience developing and analyzing process flow diagrams and piping & instrumentation diagrams, mass-energy balances for processes, chemical process simulation & modeling, and process economics
- Hands-on skills on process technology, vacuum pumps & processes, pressure relief design, chemical abatement/scrubbing, and process safety management
- Ability to perform duties and responsibilities with a flexible work schedule
