Summary:
We are looking for a curious, analytical, and hands-on Associate to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who loves understanding how digital marketplaces work, enjoys uncovering customer insights, and is excited to explore the competitive landscape of ecommerce and marketplaces.
You'll help our team gain a deeper understanding of competitor platforms by conducting research, testing customer journeys, and gathering first-hand observations from the market. You'll experience competitor products as a real buyer and seller, attend industry events, and investigate emerging retail, shipping, and logistics innovations across the city.

Responsibilities:

Competitive Research & Analysis

Conduct desk research on ecommerce and marketplace competitors, including their products, services, features, promotions, and customer experience.
Review customer feedback and online reviews to identify recurring themes, strengths, weaknesses, and emerging trends.
Monitor competitor announcements, partnerships, and new product launches.
Product & Customer Experience Evaluation
Go hands on with ecommerce marketplaces to get an understanding of the current competitive environment directly by engaging with the platforms.
Document observations and provide structured feedback on customer experience, design, and functionality.
Compare competitor offerings against industry best practices and emerging trends.

Mystery Shopping & Marketplace Testing

Create accounts and participate in buying and selling activities on competitor platforms.
Conduct mystery shopping exercises to understand the end-to-end customer journey.
Evaluate payments, listings, communications, fulfilment, returns, and customer support experiences.
Produce detailed reports and newsletters highlighting opportunities, pain points, and noteworthy innovations.

Field Research & Market Observation

Attend industry events, retail activations, pop-ups, and marketplace-related experiences across New York City.
Visit shipping, logistics, and collection point locations to evaluate new delivery, locker, and fulfilment solutions.
Capture observations through photos, notes, and structured reporting.

Insight Generation

Synthesize research findings into concise presentations and reports.
Present recommendations and key learnings to stakeholders.
Support and hoc market intelligence projects as required.
Consolidate competitor intelligence across multiple internal and external sources creating a central source of truth which allows others to self-serve insights

Required Qualifications

Strong curiosity about ecommerce, technology, retail, or digital marketplaces.
Excellent research and analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Comfortable working independently and managing multiple projects.
Proficiency with Google Sheets, Google Slides, and Slack. Experience using spreadsheets to manage product data, track marketplace listings, analyze performance, and collaborate across teams is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience conducting research projects through coursework or internships.
Familiarity with online marketplaces, ecommerce platforms, or digital consumer products.
Interest in customer experience, product management, strategy, or consulting.
Comfortable navigating mobile apps, websites, and digital services.

Pay Transparency: The typical base pay for this role across the U.S. is: $41.00- $41.37/hour. Non-exempt positions are eligible for overtime at a rate of 1.5 times the base hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a work week, or as required by state or local law. Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible to select from different benefits packages.
