Assistant Underwriter - Medical Stop Loss Austin, TX | Onsite
A fast-growing Medical Stop Loss MGU is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to join its underwriting team in Austin, TX. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career in stop loss underwriting within a smaller, collaborative environment that offers direct exposure to all aspects of the underwriting process.
In this role, you'll work closely with experienced underwriters, brokers, TPAs, and internal stakeholders to support new business and renewal activities. The position offers hands-on training and the opportunity to develop underwriting expertise from the ground up.
Responsibilities
• Review census, claims, and underwriting data for new business and renewal opportunities
• Assist with the preparation of rating models, pricing analyses, and underwriting documentation
• Support quote development and proposal generation
• Evaluate risk information and identify data discrepancies or missing information
• Partner with brokers, TPAs, and internal teams to gather and analyze underwriting information
• Maintain underwriting files and ensure data accuracy throughout the quoting process
• Assist with reporting, market analysis, and other underwriting projects as needed
Qualifications
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail and ability to work with large data sets
• Exposure to group medical insurance, medical stop loss, claims, benefits administration, or TPA operations preferred
• Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with data
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Desire to learn underwriting and grow within the medical stop loss industry
