The Project Manager is responsible for performing all aspects of engineering project management for low and high DC voltage electrical power and signal distribution applications. The customer-focused Project Manager will partner with the sales team for acquisition of new projects and product initiatives with oversight of total task deliveries that meet deadlines within budget and quality expectations. Must be proactive, energetic, and responsive with both internal and external customers.
1. Gather and analyze customer technical requirements from assigned product development opportunities.
2. Provide technical support to the sales team and customer engineers during the project development phase for new opportunities.
3. Technical assessment and management of project and product conceptions including special characteristics.
4. Develop electrical power distribution proposals by creating block diagrams, modeling concepts, selecting electrical components, creating Bill of Materials, writing assembly instructions, and organizing and storing all drawings and technical information within project specific repositories.
5. Lead approved projects through the series of Product Life Cycle (PLC) Gate reviews from initial concepting, prototype builds, and start of production launches supporting manufacturing engineering and other company departments.
6. Support serial production and any product changes needed for manufacturability.
7. Author product technical specifications and study documents that align with customer requirements and expected performance standards for each project assignment.
8. Estimate Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) costs to execute total design effort for each new project from inception to production launch. This included mechanical, electrical, and project engineering and validation testing.
9. Create prototype and production timelines (Gantt charts) for projects which align with OEM customer critical deadlines and milestones. Coordinate with internal departments to ensure all timing tasks meet deadlines and in cadence with overall timing. For all new projects, the Project Manager will lead internal kick-off meetings to present customer accepted timing to the departments and assign tasks where needed.
10. Execute ECN (Engineering Change Notices) for new and current production products as requested by customers or needed for any reason. This includes issuing temporary deviations when needed while change documentation is pending release.
11. Physically assembly prototype parts and perform electrical and mechanical testing to validate performance within customer specifications. The engineering lab is equipped to support these builds.
12. Lead all technical design reviews with customers’ engineers and internal peer design reviews for all new products. This includes peer reviews of PCB layouts for DRC (Design Rule Check) verification and signoff.
13. Report project status to management teams when requested.
14. Lead and mentor junior electrical and mechanical designers.
15. Travel to support customers as required.
