Position Overview: Shen Milsom & Wilke is pleased to announce an opportunity for a dedicated and results-oriented Associate IT Infrastructure Designer/Engineer to join our team in our San Francisco, CA location.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and specification of standards-compliant structured cabling systems. 8+ years' experience as a high-level consultant and designer for projects requiring the design of structured cabling systems. Must also have experience with the coordination of MEP and architectural infrastructure requirements. Project management experience should include multi-discipline (Information Technology Systems, Audiovisual, and Security) coordination and design. Information Technology Infrastructure design capabilities include all phases from Conceptual/Schematic Design through Construction Documents. The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of the architectural design process and construction administration. A proven track record and ability to manage multiple projects in various phases of design is required.
SM&W has a hybrid work policy. This position requires three days in the office or on a project site and permits two days remote. We are seeking candidates who live in the San Francisco, CA region or nearby areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interfacing with clients, owners, and design team members,
- Preparing agendas, running design/coordination meetings, and providing minutes,
- Preparing structured cabling design documentation, including drawings and specifications.
- Project manages multi-discipline ICT coordination and design capabilities for all phases from conceptual/schematic design through construction documents.
- Review architectural, structural design and engineering plans and consult on space design, material selection, and multimedia systems.
- Design and prepare the layout of floor plans, riser diagrams, schedules, specification notes and details with special emphasis on structured cabling.
- Perform site surveys to develop client requirements for converged infrastructure, and develop documentation of new or existing systems and building conditions
- Work within a team environment to ensure client standards are met and that all technology systems are incorporated into the overall system design
- Provide timely, accurate and complete responses to RPF’s and RFI’s
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, clients and other interdepartmental personnel.
- Serve as a technical resource for others throughout the firm, providing thought leadership and subject matter expertise
- Research, develop and evaluate emerging technology to maximize the firm’s services.
- Assure SM&W Quality standards with adherence to QA/QC procedures.
- This role may involve 5-15% travel, both domestically and internationally
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a similar degree or years of equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years’ experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in developing relationships with staff and clients.
- Client focus, with a commitment to quality and problem-solving.
- Functional knowledge of the Bluebeam PDF software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite/Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Project Management Certification is a plus.
