Overview
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer with 3–5 years of experience in HVAC and plumbing systems design to join our growing engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical building systems for commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, and high-rise residential projects while collaborating with architects, owners, and multidisciplinary engineering teams from concept through construction.
This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, and high-rise residential building projects.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software.
- Size and select HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, pumps, and plumbing systems.
- Prepare construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and technical documentation using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, and civil disciplines.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, energy codes, and local regulations.
- Participate in client meetings, project coordination meetings, and design reviews.
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and support construction administration activities.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and respond to contractor questions during construction.
- Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and quality control efforts.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- 3–5 years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, multifamily, mixed-use, and high-rise residential buildings.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Experience performing HVAC load calculations and equipment selection.
- Working knowledge of California Codes and ASHRAE Standards
- Strong understanding of hydronic systems, air distribution, ventilation, plumbing, and piping design.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
Preferred
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and load calculation software such as EnergyPro, Trace 3D Plus, or HAP.
