Nonprofit Underwriting Specialist
A well-established insurance organization is seeking an experienced underwriter to join a specialized team focused on serving nonprofit and human service organizations. This position offers the opportunity to work with mission-driven insureds while managing a diverse portfolio of complex risks. This is a fully remote position; however, applicants must be located in Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, or Washington.
The ideal candidate will have experience evaluating nonprofit, social service, educational, community-based, or public-focused organizations and enjoy building long-term partnerships with agency partners.
Responsibilities

Underwrite new and renewal business within a specialized nonprofit portfolio

Analyze exposures, financials, loss history, operations, and risk characteristics to make sound underwriting decisions

Develop pricing, terms, and coverage structures that support profitable growth

Manage a book of business while maintaining strong retention and underwriting performance

Partner closely with agents and brokers to identify opportunities and provide responsive service

Collaborate with internal teams including risk control, claims, and underwriting operations

Monitor market conditions and emerging risks impacting nonprofit organizations

Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners and key stakeholders
Qualifications

5+ years of commercial underwriting experience

Experience underwriting nonprofit, human services, social services, educational institutions, municipalities, religious organizations, community organizations, or other mission-focused entities preferred

Strong knowledge of coverages including General Liability, Property, Auto, Workers Compensation, Umbrella, Professional Liability, and related commercial lines products

Ability to evaluate complex risks and make independent underwriting decisions

Excellent relationship management and communication skills

CPCU or other industry designations are a plus
