Company
Legacy Health is a leading innovator in the healthcare sector, dedicated to improving patient care and outcomes through cutting-edge technology. We are building the next generation of healthcare solutions and seeking a highly skilled and passionate AI Architect to join our dynamic team and drive the development of transformative artificial intelligence systems.
Position Summary
The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying software solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and automation across healthcare Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) operations. This role will work closely with Product Development, Technology, Operations, and RCM subject matter experts to identify opportunities to apply artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and workflow automation to complex healthcare business processes.
The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering skills with practical experience implementing AI technologies in production environments. Experience with healthcare revenue cycle workflows, healthcare data, EHR/practice management systems, or HIPAA-regulated environments is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain AI-powered applications and software solutions supporting healthcare RCM operations.
- Develop solutions that improve or automate workflows such as eligibility and benefits verification, charge capture, coding support, claim submission, payment posting, denial management, accounts receivable follow-up, prior authorization, and patient financial services.
- Develop secure integrations with EHRs, practice management systems, clearinghouses, payer platforms, and internal applications.
- Work with healthcare data formats and interoperability standards such as HL7, FHIR, X12, APIs, and structured/unstructured healthcare data.
- Develop AI agents and intelligent workflow automation solutions capable of supporting complex, multi-step RCM processes.
- Build APIs, backend services, data pipelines, and application components required to operationalize AI solutions.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party AI models, platforms, APIs, and open-source technologies when appropriate.
- Establish testing methodologies and quality controls to reduce hallucinations, inaccurate outputs, and unintended AI behavior.
- Partner with RCM subject matter experts to translate operational challenges into technical requirements and scalable solutions.
- Maintain technical documentation, source code, system architecture documentation, testing results, and deployment procedures.
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure applications comply with HIPAA, PHI protection requirements, company security standards, and applicable client requirements.
- Follow secure software development practices, including appropriate access controls, logging, encryption, credential management, and data-handling procedures.
- Stay current on emerging AI technologies and recommend practical applications that can improve RCM productivity, quality, scalability, and client outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 3+ years of professional software development experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing or integrating AI/ML or generative AI solutions into production applications.
- Strong proficiency in Python and experience with relevant programming languages and frameworks.
- Experience working with REST APIs, databases, cloud platforms, Git/version control, CI/CD, and modern software development practices.
- Experience with LLM APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), embeddings/vector databases, AI agents, or similar technologies preferred.
- Knowledge of SQL and experience working with structured and unstructured datasets.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud preferred.
- Healthcare technology, healthcare RCM, EHR, payer, clearinghouse, or medical billing experience strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, PHI, healthcare data security, and healthcare interoperability standards preferred.
- Ability to translate business and operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and nontechnical RCM subject matter experts.
Key Success Measures
Success in this role will be measured by the ability to deliver secure, reliable AI solutions that produce measurable improvements in RCM productivity, accuracy, turnaround time, automation rates, denial prevention/reduction, cash acceleration, and operational scalability while maintaining appropriate security, compliance, and human oversight.
For Legacy Health specifically, I would position this as a hands-on engineering role reporting through Product Development/Automation or Technology, rather than an AI Architect position. The distinction is important: the AI Software Engineer builds, codes, integrates, tests, and maintains the solutions, while an architect typically has broader responsibility for technical strategy and architecture.
