About the Position
This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys working with wood and solving problems.
You'll spend time both in the shop and on job sites, fabricating and installing custom cabinetry, built-ins, furniture, architectural details, and remodeling components. No two projects are exactly alike, and we're looking for someone who is comfortable adapting when the real-world conditions of an older home don't quite match the drawings.
You'll work directly with the owner and alongside other trades and craftspeople. Depending on the project, you may be taking a project from a set of drawings to a finished installation, or helping figure out how to make an unusual idea work.
We're less interested in someone who simply knows how to follow a set of instructions than we are in someone who understands materials, notices details, thinks ahead, and takes ownership of their work.
What You'll Do
Cabinetmaking & Fabrication
- Build custom cabinets, built-ins, furniture, shelving, and architectural millwork.
- Fabricate components from plywood, hardwood, veneers, and other materials.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, plans, dimensions, and specifications.
- Accurately measure, lay out, cut, assemble, fit, and prepare finished work.
- Use traditional woodworking techniques as well as modern tools and fabrication methods.
- Operate table saws, miter saws, routers, sanders, planers, jointers, and other woodworking equipment safely.
- Perform finish sanding and prepare work for painting, staining, or other finishes.
- Modify or fabricate parts in the field when existing conditions require a different approach.
- Build jigs, fixtures, and other shop aids when they improve accuracy or efficiency.
Installation
- Install custom cabinetry, built-ins, furniture, trim, paneling, doors, and other millwork.
- Accurately scribe, fit, shim, level, and adjust custom work.
- Install hardware, drawer systems, doors, pulls, and specialty components.
- Work carefully in finished homes and protect floors, walls, furniture, and other completed surfaces.
- Identify problems with site conditions before they become installation problems.
- Find thoughtful solutions when walls, floors, ceilings, or existing construction aren't square, level, or as expected.
Remodeling & Field Work
Depending on the project and your experience, you may also assist with:
- Interior remodeling
- Finish carpentry and trim
- Framing and drywall
- Demolition
- Doors and windows
- Tile and other complementary trades
- Historic or existing-home repairs
- General project preparation and cleanup
You don't need to be an expert at everything. We value people who are willing to learn and who understand when to ask questions. We also train as we go.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with professional experience in cabinetmaking, finish carpentry, woodworking, remodeling, or a related trade. Cabinetmaking and installation experience is especially valuable, but we're open to people with strong finish carpentry, furniture-making, or remodeling backgrounds who have the skills and mindset to grow into the role.
Pay: $30.00 - $50.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
