This Role
We are seeking a Greater Boston-based HERS Rater to support Boston-area projects. This position combines hands-on field testing and inspections with energy modeling, plan review, and project coordination. Your work will help project teams translate building science principles into practical decisions that improve building performance and reduce environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities
- Field Testing: Conduct blower door, duct leakage, ventilation testing, and on-site inspections for multifamily buildings. (approximately 50-60% of the time)
- Plan Analysis: Review architectural, mechanical, plumbing, and lighting plans for energy code compliance.
- Energy Modeling: Perform take-offs and modeling for HERS ratings of new construction and energy retrofits.
- Project Management: Guide clients through certification program requirements from design to final verification.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2–5 years in building design, construction, energy efficiency, or project management.
- Credentials: RESNET Certified HERS Rater preferred but not required.
- Education: B.S. in Engineering, Architecture, Building Technology, Environmental Studies, or a related field (equivalent experience considered)
- Logistics: Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license with a clean driving record, and the ability to navigate active construction sites.
Physical Requirements
- This is a primarily field-based role involving frequent visits to active construction sites and physically demanding work. Responsibilities require walking, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, reaching, and carrying equipment. The employee must be able to lift or move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Location and Travel
- This role is based in Greater Boston and primarily supports Boston-area projects. Approximately 50–60% of the work involves field testing and inspections, with the remaining time devoted to modeling, plan review, documentation, and project coordination.
- Most non-field work may be completed from home or another remote location.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Travel to Airtight’s Northampton, MA office is required one day every other week for team collaboration and project coordination
Pay: $73,500.00 - $86,000.00 per year
