Commercial Energy Consultant
Commercial Solar, Battery Storage, Microgrids & EV Infrastructure
Forecast Energy | Hybrid Remote | Washington State
Estimated Annual Commission Earnings: $100,000–$250,000
About Forecast Energy
Forecast Energy has served the Pacific Northwest since 2005 under the same ownership, with a focus on renewable energy since 2012. We design and install commercial solar PV, battery energy storage systems, microgrids, EV charging infrastructure, and integrated energy management systems throughout Washington State.
Our commercial portfolio includes projects for businesses, school districts, municipalities, nonprofits, and multi-family properties, including publicly funded and grant-supported installations. Our experience extends to complex electrical integrations, energy resilience projects, and systems requiring coordination with utilities, government agencies, and multiple project stakeholders.
With experienced in-house design, electrical, and installation teams, we have the technical resources to develop and execute complex projects from initial feasibility through installation and commissioning. We take a practical approach to project development, with an emphasis on accurate scopes of work, competitive estimating, responsible cost management, and reliable execution.
Our approach balances competitive project pricing with technical expertise, quality installation, and long-term system performance. We focus on developing practical, cost-effective solutions that meet project requirements while delivering lasting value to our customers.
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Commercial Energy Consultant who understands commercial renewable energy systems, project development, and the construction bidding process.
This position goes well beyond traditional sales. You'll identify and develop opportunities, evaluate project feasibility, review construction documents, develop preliminary designs and scopes of work, and coordinate accurate, competitive proposals and bids.
Forecast provides commercial leads and RFP opportunities, but independent business development is an important part of this position. We're looking for someone who actively builds professional relationships, develops partnerships, participates in community and industry events, and creates new opportunities.
This is a full-time, commission-based position offering flexibility, autonomy, strong earning potential, and opportunities for professional growth.
What You'll Do
- Identify and develop commercial solar PV, battery storage, microgrid, EV charging, and integrated energy management projects.
- Evaluate utility data, site conditions, electrical infrastructure, and project requirements to determine feasibility and develop appropriate solutions.
- Read and interpret architectural plans, electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, construction specifications, and other technical documents.
- Develop preliminary system designs, identify major equipment and electrical components, and establish initial scopes of work in collaboration with our in-house teams.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and bid walks to evaluate project requirements and installation considerations.
- Manage the RFQ and RFP process, including reviewing bid documents, preparing accurate applications and proposals, coordinating estimates, and submitting complete, competitive bids.
- Solicit, review, and coordinate subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure accurate project scopes and pricing.
- Identify and evaluate grant opportunities, utility incentives, public funding programs, and other financing resources. Understand eligibility and program requirements and clearly present available opportunities to customers.
- Navigate government procurement, public works bidding, and contracting requirements for municipalities, school districts, and other publicly funded projects.
- Manage company-provided opportunities while independently generating business through networking, referrals, and strategic partnerships.
- Build relationships with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, utilities, municipalities, nonprofits, and other organizations involved in commercial energy development.
- Participate in industry organizations, conferences, community events, and educational outreach to develop relationships and generate new opportunities.
- Collaborate with our design, electrical, and operations teams and maintain customer relationships throughout project development, contracting, and installation.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in commercial solar PV, battery storage, renewable energy development, or related commercial electrical project development.
- Strong understanding of commercial electrical systems, utility infrastructure, renewable energy technologies, and project feasibility.
- Experience with commercial construction bidding, RFQs, RFPs, bid walks, estimating, and subcontractor coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, electrical drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience developing preliminary system designs, identifying major components, and establishing accurate scopes of work.
- Familiarity with government procurement, public works contracting, grants, utility incentives, and other funding programs.
- Understanding of commercial project economics, permitting, interconnection, and applicable electrical codes.
- Experience with solar design and proposal software.
- Proven ability to independently develop business, build professional relationships, and manage projects through contract execution.
- Strong communication, organization, and technical problem-solving skills.
NABCEP PV Technical Sales Professional and PV Design Specialist board certifications are strongly preferred. Additional NABCEP credentials, manufacturer certifications, and demonstrated commercial project experience are valued.
Experience with commercial EV charging infrastructure, microgrids, municipal projects, multi-family developments, and grant-funded community energy projects is particularly valuable.
What We Offer
- Commission-based compensation with company-provided leads and RFP opportunities, along with opportunities to increase earnings through self-generated business.
- Flexible scheduling and hybrid remote work.
- Support and collaboration from experienced in-house design, electrical, and installation teams.
- Opportunities to develop complex commercial and community energy projects.
- Manufacturer training, professional development assistance, and a defined career progression.
- A collaborative team environment grounded in technical integrity, accountability, and quality installations.
