We’re Playgig, an LA-based studio building Mystic Kingdoms - a fast, competitive, AI-native mobile MOBA. We’re looking for a freelance UX/UI designer with proven mobile F2P game experience to refine onboarding, HUD clarity, and key systems like the battle pass, ranked progression, and store. This role is high-impact, embedded with our core team, and focused on player clarity, retention, and fun.

Scope:
- Gameplay UX: First-Time User Experience (FTUE), tutorials, HUD readability, match clarity.
- Meta Systems UX/UI: Home screen navigation, battle pass, ranked progression, store, character/skin selection, live ops menus
- Deliverables: Wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI assets.
- Collaboration: Work closely with design and product leads, participate in weekly playtests, and iterate quickly based on feedback and player data.
Location:
US-based designers (Pacific Time Zone).
Hybrid in-person in Los Angeles (El Segundo) is a bonus.
Budget:
Hourly contract: $45 – $90/hr
20–40 hours per week
Initial contract: 2–3 months, with possibility of extension
Job Description
Playgig is an LA-based game studio developing Mystic Kingdoms, an AI-native competitive mobile MOBA. We are seeking a freelance UX/UI designer to refine both the core gameplay experience and the meta game systems that drive player retention and monetization.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role with direct influence on how players experience our game. You will design and prototype player flows for onboarding, HUD readability, and core systems like battle pass and progression. You’ll be embedded with our design and product leads, iterating weekly based on playtests and data.
Responsibilities:
- Design FTUE, tutorial flows, and HUD for clarity and accessibility.
- Create UX/UI for battle pass, ranked progression, store, and character/skin selection.
- Deliver wireframes, prototypes, and UI polish (if capable).
- Participate in weekly playtest reviews and iterate based on findings.
- Align UX with free-to-play loops, retention drivers, and monetization systems.
- Must-Have Qualifications:
- Proven experience in mobile free-to-play games (MOBA, competitive, RPG, or strategy a plus).
- Ability to design FTUE, progression, and monetization flows.
- Proficiency in prototyping tools (Unity UI, Figma, XD, or equivalent).
- Comfort with fast iteration cycles (weekly testing and refinement).
- Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
Nice-to-Haves:
- UI art/polish skills (wireframes → final assets).
- Unity UI implementation experience.
- Located in/near Los Angeles (El Segundo office).
- Familiarity with AI-enhanced workflows.
