NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement.
This is an Engineering Technician I position located in the Roadside Environmental Office involving technical work supporting technicians and engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. You must perform a full range of calculations and computations and be proficient in record keeping.
You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes required.The selected candidate may be subject to non-traditional hours, work nights and weekends as needed due to construction inspection/operations and during inclement weather/disaster events. The selected candidate may be subject to a wide range of hazards such as rough or uneven terrain and/or work in adverse weather conditions to include heat and cold. This position also requires the ability to lift 50 pounds.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Associate’s degree in civil engineering technology, Survey Technology, or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
If there are no qualified candidates remaining in the applicant pool who meet the minimum Education and Experience or Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required for the position, the agency may consider for this position, a trainee who does not meet the minimum requirements. Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
