Summary:
- Under moderate supervision, performs one or more of the following duties and responsibilities:
- Designs AC and DC power and system products that comply to customer specifications and industry standards and according to project plans. Designs cable assemblies and harnesses. Generates and releases DC and AC system-level schematics.
- Performs sheet metal and plastic design.
- Compiles and releases bills-of-material (BOM) and drawings for all assigned projects. Develops engineering documentation as required.
- Interface with suppliers on product design and cost issues.
- Interfaces with internal Product Management, Procurement, Production and Quality departments for procurement of raw materials and production of assigned products/projects.
- Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators.
- Ability to meet cost targets and project deadlines.
- Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner
- Must work well and contribute in a team environment
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related discipline with emphasis on electromechanical power system design.
Job Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of 10 years of mechanical design experience developing 3D models and prototype products, preferably in the telecom power and/or electronics industry. Prior experience developing technical documentation is preferred.
- Good understanding of AC and DC circuits, including 3phase AC, and low voltage DC.
- Must be proficient in the use of 3D/2D CAD modeling software such as Solidworks, and AutoCAD. Data management experience also preferred. Strong computer skills to include MS Office and graphic presentation software also required.
- Knowledge of power systems engineering and system control/alarm wiring
- Demonstrated knowledge in a variety of engineering concepts and practices to include mechanical design engineering principals. Ability to understand and resolve moderately complex technical issues is required.
- Familiar with Telcordia, UL, National Electric Code and NEBS requirements.
