The Project Software Engineer serves as a key member of the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group. Project engineers are expected to function as leads or important contributors on software efforts. This role architects and produces software solutions that support the longevity and system maintainability.
This role requires developing and supporting analytical tools for data collected from underwater vehicles. The ideal candidate for this position is a self-starter who is an effective communicator.
- Apply working knowledge of software lifecycle to develop and begin leading software efforts.
- Implement decisions for designing and maintaining software architecture.
- Actively interface with other engineering leads, program managers and external customers.
- Key contributor to creation, maintenance and acceptance of project CDRL’s. This includes requirements management, software documentation and unit testing,
- Contribute to trade studies.
- Support software testing both in remote development environments as well as onsite at the customer facility in Suitland, Maryland.
- Provide software technical support to users at the customer facility.
- Perform analysis of user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
- Displays excellent technical judgment, attention to detail, and ability to look at the “big picture” in system design.
- Demonstrates ability to devise innovative solutions to problems when conventional solutions are insufficient.
- Prepares reports and presents results to management.
- Schedules can be demanding throughout the year and occasional work outside normal working hours should be anticipated.
- Mentorship of junior team members.
ESSENTIAL:
- BS Degree in in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline. Commensurate experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of practical experience in software engineering.
- Proficiency with a .NET programming language, preferably C#.
- Proficiency with SQL database programming.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Solid written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts and products to team members and customers.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Security+ or CASP+ certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Department of Defense Security Clearance (active clearances preferred, but not prerequisite).
- Must be a US citizen.
PREFERED:
- Experience with basic project management.
- Experience working with or displaying data using GIS tools such as ESRI.
- Experience with Python, VBScript or other scripting languages.
- Comfortable researching and implementing open-source libraries and SDK’s.
- Comfortable with algorithms and mathematics.
- Experience working on Department of Defense software efforts.
- Experience with Jira and Git.
- Experience with human factors engineering and implementing the corresponding user interface designs.
- Existing TS/SCI clearance.
This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office. Hybrid work schedules are determined by the hiring manager based on business need.

Annualized pay rate for this position : $113,900- $154,100.
