Summary of Responsibilities:
Join a growing and successful investment banking team as part of a leading global bank. The US Investment Banking & Finance (IB&F) team of BBVA is a fast paced, high value-added team of professionals covering key areas in banking including Corporate Lending, Project Finance, Real Estate Finance, Fund Finance, Debt Advisory, Capital Solutions, ESG Advisory, Cleantech Advisory, and Securitization. The teams help clients raise capital, optimize their capital structures, fund growth, and transition to a greener, low carbon future. The IB&F team in the US has become a leader in areas including renewable project finance, green financing, data center finance, and energy transition advice.
As an analyst in the Loan Syndicate & Sales team team, you will work directly with senior team members to help: 1. propose and execute underwritten lending opportunities, evaluate feasibility, analyze operational and financial risks outlining the relevant disintermediation strategy, 2. Preparing Loan Underwriting Assessments for loan underwritings that are presented to the Loan Underwriting Committee (“LUC”) in support of transactions where BBVA is taking loan market risk on transactions, 3. Preparing bank presentations, participating in bank meetings, meeting investors, dealing with investors’ different requests, 4. Acting as a market leader influencing insider and outsiders relevant players by developing own market criteria managing to set up market benchmarks, 5. Identify lending opportunities that best meet the Bank's objectives, 6. Lead and coordinate the underwriting process in cooperation with other Joint Bookrunners to ensure best Underwriting Closing capabilities, 7. During syndications where BBVA is an active Bookrunner, providing invited lenders with assistance in regard to Due Diligence subjects, prepare syndication status calls, prepare allocations, 8. Provide industry and client research to use in the sales process and lead in the preparation of sales presentation material, 9. Investor Coverage: Covers banks and institutional investors for loan purchases & sales and market soundings. Holding regular meetings with investors to strengthen relationships and generate reverse enquiries, primary and secondary alike. Sharing market knowledge amongst the wholesale lending teams by keeping the Debt domain and other internal databases (Sales Force) updated with regular notes, 10. Execution and closing of primary assignments and preparation of FAS91 to close out fee recognition post successful syndication, 11. Pitching clients together with different origination teams.
In this role, the analyst will need to develop and manage comparables tables, liquidity analysis, and syndication strategies achieving a high degree of certainty for implementation and execution. The analyst will also need to be able to understand due diligence and market analysis, financial models and cash flows, macroeconomic concepts, and regulatory environment. A high level of technical competence is a must for this role. The successful candidate will be working with the IB&F teams below:
Investment Banking & Finance teams:
Corporate Lending – Debt capital and acquisition financing for large US and global companies operating in the US. Manages a large portfolio of Revolving Credit Facilities, Term Loans, and Bridge Loans to a blue-chip client base in a number of industry sectors – TMT, Consumer, Healthcare, Industrial, Infrastructure, and Institutions.
Fund Finance – Capital Call facilities used by asset managers to finance Limited Partner equity calls in order to optimize the fund returns for the sponsor.
Project Finance – Financing renewables projects in the US & Canada, including solar, wind, offshore wind, CCGTs, in addition to energy transition projects like LNG facilities, cleantech projects including battery storage, EV battery plants, and infrastructure/TMT including mass transit, fiber-optic networks, and social infrastructure.
Real Estate Finance – Non-recourse asset financing of data centers, student housing, logistics, multi-family / multi-use, and life sciences, as well as providing capital to REITs.
List Major/Essential Job Duties:
- Preparation of marketing materials for client pitches and idea generation, including pitchbook template updates.
- Preparation of Information Memos and Lender Presentations for lead role opportunities and coordination of bank meetings.
- Preparation of Preparation of Syndicaiton Strategies and syndication trackers to discuss / present to the client, associated with the prepartion and implemention of a BBVA led Bookrunning exercise.
- Prepare and punctually update information reporting on in process transactions and closed deals, including interaction with finance on fee (FAS91) recognition.
- Loan underwriting approval, booking and distribution follow up for transactions booked in NY using internal processes and systems (Sales Force), including working with/informing various teams/Sr. Mngt.
Level of Complexity and Risk Involved: Moderately complex responsibilities, with a critical component being the preparation of client pitch books, marketing documents, and involvement in deal execution, loan distribution and booking/fee recognition.
Scope of Duties:

Skills, knowledge, and abilities/Competencies:
- Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field
- Fluent in English. Working Knowledge of Spanish is a plus
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Attention to detail is critical
- Strong organizational skills to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work in a team environment and under tight deadlines
- Financial modeling and knowledge of financial statements
- Proficient in ALL Microsoft Office Tools - strong Excel and Powerpoint capabilities a must

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary ranges from $90,000 to $100,000. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
