We are currently seeking an Underwriting Manager to join our Policyholder Services Leadership team!
As an Underwriting Manager you will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of supervisors to achieve profitability and sustainable growth for SIF’s underwriting operations. Additionally, you will be accountable for formulating and executing strategies to enhance new business acquisition, policy retention, and renewal performance, based on a comprehensive assessment of the company’s risk appetite. In conjunction with Business Development leadership, this position will ensure consistency in strategy and approach to agent relations.
We’ll be looking for YOU to:
- Champion SIF’s core values (Reliability, Innovation, Relationship Driven) by building and maintaining positive, collaborative relationships in all areas.
- Lead a team of supervisors to maintain consistent and reliable underwriting, pricing, and communication.
- Assist in closing sales by participating in visits and calls with insureds and agents, as needed, including discussions of renewals and prospect quotes, SIF services, etc.
- Gain a thorough understanding of the market to develop targeted strategies to profitably grow business.
- Analyze job level/experience, written premium, industry class codes and adjust Letters of Authority for underwriters accordingly.
- Responsible for driving formal risk analysis and procedural guidelines for underwriting and policy maintenance.
- Provide expectations to staff on policies and procedures to follow when underwriting as well as proper risk analysis documentation and evaluation. With help from other units determine needs for staff training in Underwriting.
- Drive SIF’s underwriting risk level, quality, and performance to desired outcomes for agencies and key stakeholders holding staff to key performance indicators.
Your background should include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business (or a related discipline), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 10 years of underwriting experience in a workers’ compensation insurance setting.
- Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU), Associate in General Insurance (AINS), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or other insurance related designations desired.
- Knowledge of underwriting best practices in a workers’ compensation insurance setting.
- Ability to recognize opportunities in the markets; Strong customer orientation.
- Strong knowledge of Idaho workers’ compensation law and regulations and NCCI rules, regulations, and classifications.

Pay: $137,146.00 - $176,736.00 per year

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Boise, ID 83702
