Within Elsevier, the Diffusion Studios team is responsible for developing custom medical education solutions for external clients and providing support to intracompany projects.
The work done by the Diffusion Studios team is quite varied in terms of style, topic, and audience. We work with partners from around the world and have translated material into more than a dozen languages. The materials created include standalone 2D images, interactive 3D models, infographics, whiteboard animations, 2D and 3D animations, icons, and more. About the Role
As a Medical Illustrator for the Diffusion Studios team, you will be responsible for creating the visual elements required to bring carefully crafted scripts to life in a relevant, audience-appropriate, educational, and engaging way. You will meet with internal and external stakeholders to understand the vision and goals for the project, compose fully illustrated storyboards, revise your work based on feedback, and prepare final compositions for the video editor.
This position requires a candidate who can adapt to different artistic styles and who fully understands the demands of producing content for deadline-driven projects. The successful individual must consistently deliver work that meets the highest standards of quality, speed, accuracy, and strict adherence to client specifications.
We are seeking someone capable of working independently and producing high-quality work from the outset; therefore, this is not a trainee position.
Responsibilities
- Communicating clearly with internal and external stakeholders to help manage expectations and avoid misunderstandings.
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders regarding the graphic design and visual development of projects, taking into account outlined specifications.
- Performing independent research to identify and document relevant and scientifically accurate reference materials.
- Assisting with the documentation and regular review of illustrator workflows to support the reliable estimation of deliverable timelines.
- Responding to all inquiries, concerns, and feedback promptly and with the appropriate level of detail.
- Organizing project files in such a way that authorized parties can easily locate, access, and edit.
- Collaborating with and providing timely feedback to colleagues on a regular basis.
- Communicating with direct supervisor on a regular basis to ensure deliverables are completed on time and according to specifications.
- Providing reasonable notice to direct supervisor when deviations to standard work schedule are expected or needed.
- Serving as an ambassador for Elsevier/RELX by embodying the organization’s values with every internal and external interaction.
- Contributing to the sales process by consistently producing high-quality content and building strong internal and external business relationships.
Requirements
- Have a Medical illustration portfolio that demonstrates education and/or professional experience. The portfolio should include original work that is scientifically accurate, reveals an understanding of human anatomy/body systems, and showcases an ability to simplify complex topics into engaging visuals.
- Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, specifically: Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects.
- Possess an exceptional illustration and graphic design background, including color theory, accessibility standards, composition, and character design.
- Display a flexible artistic style and capable of matching/mimicking other styles.
- Able to work efficiently with limited direct oversight.
- Are organized and task-oriented with ability to prioritize projects based on deadlines, complexity, and time needed to complete the work to a high standard.
- Able to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing.
- Are receptive to feedback and client demands for change.
- Have demonstrable experience with 3D modeling, 2D/3D animation, and motion graphics. (Highly Valued)
U.S. National Base Pay Range: $43,600 - $72,600. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates.
