Position Overview
The Lead Technical Apparel Designer is responsible for turning creative design concepts into accurate, production-ready garments. This role owns pattern development, fit standards, technical specifications, and production documentation. You will work directly with our pattern, cutting, sewing, and printing teams to ensure high-quality, durable, and consistent products.
This is an on-site, hands-on role with leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the develop, grade, and maintain garment patterns and fit blocks
- Create detailed tech packs, specs, BOMs, and print mapping files
- Lead fit sessions and apply fit and construction corrections
- Partner with production on cutting, sewing, and quality control
- Approve samples, trims, fabrics, and sublimation layouts
- Maintain pattern and fit libraries
- Mentor/supervise Assistant Technical Designer, pattern maker, graphic arts team, and design interns
- Support new product development and process improvements
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years experience in technical apparel design, pattern making, or garment engineering
- Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, grading, and specs
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and pattern software (Gerber/PAD/Optitex or similar)
- Experience with stretchwear, athletic apparel, uniforms, or performance costumes
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organization skills
- Ability to work on-site and collaborate closely with production teams
Preferred
- Experience with sublimation print layouts
- Knowledge of athletic or performance-driven apparel
- Previous supervisory or mentoring experience
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday – Friday
- Additional hours during peak uniform season. July to October
