Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to lead our Accounting team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial reporting processes. Responsibilities
- Oversee, manage and coordinate the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting of the Company. This includes but is not limited to month-end close, balance sheet review, and financial statement preparation in compliance with statutory accounting principles, including internal financial statements and NAIC quarterly and annual statements.
- Supervises team that handles general accounting support such as accounts payable, customer billing and mortgage policy inquiries, cash receipts and balance sheet reconciliations and cash disbursements.
- Complies with federal, state and local requirements by keeping abreast of all NAIC and State statutes related to the insurance industry.
- Interprets operating results as they affect the financial aspects of the organization and makes specific recommendations which will result in cost reduction and profit improvement.
- Assures compliance with corporate internal controls and accounting and operating procedures
- Communicates, collaborates, and consults with Executives on financial matters and interpretations.
- Analyzes corporate data and market trends to prepare Zephyr financial scenarios and forecasts.
- Prepares periodic, accurate and complete financial reports on a statutory accounting basis including evaluation of performance, variance analyses and similar budget-versus-plan information relevant to Zephyr’s business.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration with a preferred emphasis in accounting or finance. CPA preferred.
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible business experience in insurance accounting. General knowledge of insurance regulation and industry practices and finance or accounting for insurance companies.
- Knowledge of reinsurance, investment management and treasury function, banking, capitalization and capital structures of insurance holding companies.
- Ability to successfully direct accounting staff to accomplish departmental tasks and goals.
- Excellent financial report writing skills coupled with strong analytical abilities for financial analysis and forecasting.
- Ability to interpret complex financial concepts and communicate findings clearly to Executive staff.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
